Six LFHS Teachers become National Board Certified Teachers
December 2010

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan organization founded in 1987 to create a system of advanced certification for teachers based on high and rigorous standards. National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to identify, recognize and reward accomplished teachers who meet high and rigorous standards based on what teachers should know and be able to do. NBPTS offers 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student developmental levels.

Congratulations to the six LFHS teachers recently became National Board Certified Teachers; Science teacher, Mary Beth Nawor, and English teachers Chris Finley, Mara Dukats, Rick Moore, Lance Ferges, and Jane Eccleston.

“The Foundation’s Teacher Excellence grant is helping mid-career faculty members to pursue intensive and meaningful professional development experiences.  As these teachers undertake graduate level studies in their respective academic disciplines or pursue the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards’ Master Teacher Certification, they are connecting in powerful ways with the content they teach and are closely examining and refining their teaching skills with the goal of improving student learning.”
