LFHS Graphic Design Student Creates New Logo for
Lake Bluff Park District
Recently, LFHS Graphic design 2 classes and the Lake Bluff Park District saw the results of a unique partnership. Last spring, the Lake Bluff Park District approached the LFHS graphic design 2 classes with the request for help in re-branding their nursery school, Bright Beginnings. They felt their logo was outdated and didn’t set them apart as a program that allows students to grow in a nurturing, creative environment. In April, a Park District Board Member, a Preschool teacher and the Park District’s Director of Recreation Services, Mary Quilty, spoke to the classes explaining the program in detail. Sixteen students then went to work on generating concepts for a new logo.
The completed concepts were presented to the client in early June 2010, where they were reviewed by Park District employees, as well as local advertising and graphic design executives. The submissions were narrowed down to two finalists, and after a few more rounds of edits, Hannah Nedeau, LFHS senior, won the competition. Her logo will be used on all the Bright Beginnings signage, staff and student shirts, and promotional materials starting spring 2011. Hannah Nedeau and LFHS Graphic Design teacher Carolyn Bielski were both recognized recently at the Park District’s Board Meeting, and Executive Director Ron Salski had this to say:
“The Park District was honored to partner with School District 115 and Mrs. Bielski’s class for designing our Preschool Logo. This partnership was a cost effective yet professional project benefitting students and Park District. The Park District was extremely pleased with the overall project and approved a final logo that fits our mission.”
