Student Art Permanent Collection

View Art Gallery! Through hands-on activities in the art program, students acquire an understanding of basic design, develop freedom to experiment creatively, master skills in various techniques, and form meaningful communication of original ideas.  Classes offer students the opportunity to develop creative problem-solving skills.  Through evaluating, critiquing, and articulating ideas, students grow in appreciation and understanding of other artists' work.  As a department, we hope to facilitate aesthetic appreciation and artistic development in students who choose art as an enrichment as well as in students who choose art as a career.

Art in the Halls of LFHS, October 2010

When walking the halls of LFHS, one is struck by the beautiful artwork on display. Upon closer look, one will notice that LFHS students have created the art over the years. There are currently over 80 pieces of art in the student permanent art collection at LFHS. They are found in the hallways, library, and offices throughout the building. The art is a collection of student work from as far back as the 1960’s when local artist an LFHS Alum Mark McMahon graduated, and also includes literary artist and alum, David Eggers, who donated several pieces to his former teachers before he graduated.

These treasures were recently identified with plaques purchased by a grant from the LFHS APT. The nameplates include the student’s name and year and graduation year.

An on-line database was created for this collection
. To announce this database to the classes last spring, a treasure hunt was held (see below). Students walked the halls and searched the website for clues about the former student artist. They were rewarded with art supplies as well as knowledge.

Check back soon for new artwork!
