The
Drawing and Printmaking class has recently completed two projects,
as they aim to explore various media. The first is a self-portrait
project, which the students rendered in graphite and charcoal. Each
student had a photo shoot, from which they chose their favorite
picture to draw. Kirsten Warkow, sophomore challenged
herself with a ¾ view (below).
Drawing Class has also been exploring Surrealism through artists
including Dali, Magritte and local artist David Gista. Each
student was required to put together a composition in which they
expressed an opinion through a collage of unrelated images or
surprising points of view. Here, sophomore Anna
Schwartz shares her
opinion on pollution – specifically how it is touching
all portions on the Earth, and how the United States is a significant
contributor to the global pollution problem (below).
Graphic Design Art Studio students have also had a productive
semester. Recently,
the students in this class were asked to devise an individual
project – something
they had always wanted to try. Each student was required
to design a timeline for the project, a rubric by which the work
would be graded and a series of learning objectives. Here
are two of the completed works – the first is a commentary
on capitalism created by Seth Yarkony, senior(below).
Image coming soon!
The second is a
photo collage of Bruce Springsteen created entirely from old
photographs of the student’s parents, and presented on
3” diameter
buttons. This piece was created by Kelly
Moran, senior.
Students in Graphic Design 2 recently entered a new logo design
contest for the Wheelchair and Ambulatory Sports USA group (the
organization that hosts Paralympics). At press time, we are
pleased to announce that two of our students – Owen
Petray and Megan Kraus, both juniors – have been named as finalists
in this design competition! Stayed tuned – winners
will be announced in next month’s Highlights!
