Students play Cash Flow 101 in Accounting class!
February 2010
As part of Mr. Forgette’s Accounting 1 curriculum, students play Cash Flow 101. The board game, created by Robert Kiyosaki author of Rich Dad - Poor Dad, is similar to Monopoly but relies more on buying real estate and small businesses to generate enough passive income (separate from salaried or earned income) to cover their monthly expenses. At the beginning of the game, students randomly pick occupations that have salaries and proportional expenses. They then have to make decisions on financial opportunities that present themselves as dice are rolled and pieces are moved around the board. It deals more with income statements and balance sheets where an accounting mindset of entrepreneurs comes into play.
