Asang Sherpa from Tibet

Asang Sherpa will be speaking to LFHS Asian Studies students from 2:20 pm – 3:10 pm in room 380. In 2000, Asang escaped Tibet and fled to Dharmsala, India. Today, Asang lives in the Chicago area where he teaches Tibetan meditation and funds a school for nomadic girls in rural Tibet. Asang is also a celebrated Tibetan folk singer. He was recently featured on NPR’s Worldview program. Asang will share his own understanding of life in rural Tibet today, and his own personal efforts to support literacy and education for nomadic people in rural Tibet. He may even sing a Tibetan folk song.
