The Scouts finished up their great season at
Deerfield High School, losing to the Warriors 9-5. Lake Forest,
who pitched 6 different pitchers, battled back a couple times to
tie the game, but the Warriors offense was just too much for the
Scouts.
Lake Forest got out to an early lead in the top of the second, scoring three
runs on three hits. Jack Wonham started the inning with a walk, and back
to back singles by David Keaton and Billy Bauder loaded the bases for Daniel
Josephitis, whose fielders choice brought in the first run. With two out
and two runners on, Charlie Moss ripped a triple down the left field line, plating
two Scouts. In the top of the third, a Tommy Loiacano walk and past ball
gave Lake Forest a runner in scoring position. Mark DiValerio then came
through with a 2-out RBI single to extend the LF lead to 4-0.
However, in the bottom of the third, the Warrior bats came to life, scoring four
runs to tie the game. The Warriors went on to score one run in the fourth,
three in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Lake Forest's fifth run came
off a Keaton walk, two stolen bases, and a botched pick off attempt with the
ball rolling out of play.
Despite the loss, the Scouts finished the season with a 15-5 record. Three
Scouts hit over .400, including Isaiah Reyes (.462), Mark DiValerio (.436), and
Graham Ganshirt (.492). Jack Kauss lead the team in walks (19), runs, (30)
and total at bats (77). Jack Wonham co-lead the team in RBI (20) along
with Ganshirt, and was the leader in homeruns with 2. Ganshirt also lead
the team in doubles with 5, and tied for the lead in triples with Reyes with
3.
On the mound, Ben Audley lead the way with a 4-0 record and 1.47 ERA. David
Keaton was the team leader in strikeouts, fanning 25 opposing hitters, and innings
pitched with 23.

Lake Forest Frosh B 16 - Libertyville 2
Lake Forest traveled to Libertyville on Tuesday to round
out their season series against the Wildcats, and did so in impressive
fashion. Exploding in the
first inning for five runs, the Scouts had all the offense they needed for the
game. Starting pitcher Ben Audley was magnificent, going six
innings, striking out three, and only allowing two runs.
The Scouts batted the whole order in the first inning, thanks to
three walks and three hits. Team walks leader Jack Kauss (2-3, 2RBI, 2run, 2BB) led
off with a four-pitch base on balls. Isaiah Reyes (2-4, 2run) followed
with a missile base hit to center field. Graham Ganshirt (2-4, 3run)
and Jack Wonham (1-3. 5RBI, 2BB, 2run) both drew walks, which led to Tommy Loiacano
(3-5, 3RBI, 2run) drilling a fastball over the first baseline for a two-run double. The
Wildcat pitcher settled down and struck out the next two hitters,
however Billy Bauder (1-2, 2RBI) delivered a clutch two-out base
hit that plated two Scouts.
The Scouts put up a run in the third inning, one in the fourth, and
one in the fifth. However, the sixth inning proved to be the biggest inning of the
Scouts season. Already leading 9-2, the Scouts erupted for seven runs in
the top of the sixth. Loiacano's second frozen rope of the day led off
the inning, followed by a David Keaton (1-3, 1RBI) single, and a Wylie Hardy
walk. Daniel Josephitis then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Mark
DiValerio (0-0, 2BB, 2run) drew his second walk of the day, another Kauss single,
a Reyes sacrifice fly, and a base hit by Ganshirt loaded the bases for Wonham. After
working the count to 2-2, Wonham crushed a ball to left field, clearing the fence
and the bases for a grand slam. Audley then went out and sat down the Libertyville
offense with three quick outs, and recorded the slaughter-rule victory for the
Scouts. Final score 16-2.
The Scouts take on Grayslake North High School on Wednesday, 4:30pm at LF West.

Lake Forest Frosh A 2 - Libertyville 10
The Scouts dropped the first game in a two-game series with the
Wildcats at Libertyville Monday afternoon. JR Reimer pitched well
and Liam Howe, Jack Sentell, Ryan Cast and Robert Kesman all had
hits in the loss. Griffin Brennan continues to hit the ball hard
and play well behind the plate. One key highlight came when Sentell
threw a runner out at the plate with a laser from centerfield. Marco
Loiacano also pitched well in relief. The Scouts will try to resume
their winning ways Tuesday with a home game against Libertyville.
Lake Forest Frosh B 9 - Libertyville 5
Lake Forest welcomed Libertyville High School on Monday afternoon
and came out with the 9-5 victory. Starting pitcher David Keaton battled the chilly
wind for the first four innings, allowing five runs. Relief
pitcher Christian Schmid came into the game in the fifth inning and
pitched masterfully; not allowing a hit and striking out two in his
three innings of work.
The Scouts rocked the Libertyville pitcher for three runs in the
bottom of the second. Daniel Josephitis started the inning with a walk, followed by four
base hits by Ben Audley (1-2, 1run), Billy Bauder (2-3, 2RBI), Wylie Hardy (2-2,
1run), and Jack Kauss (2-3, 2run, 1RBI). In the top of the
third inning, Libertyville struck again, this time scoring three
runs of their own to go up 5-3.
With the Scouts trailing by two in the bottom of the fourth, Bauder
and Hardy sparked the offense again with back-to-back singles. Two outs and two batters
later, Graham Ganshirt (2-4, 2RBI, 2run) came through as he has done all season,
ripping a double into the left center gap and plating Hardy and Kauss. Jack
Wonham then came to the plate and stroked a sharp single into left field, plating
Ganshirt, and giving the Scouts their first lead of the game. In the bottom
of the sixth, Isaiah Reyes led things off with a walk, and made it to third
on a Kauss' single. Micky McKiernan's sacrifice fly brought in Reyes. A
past ball brought in Kauss, and Ganshirt ripped another single and made it to
third on Wonham's groundout. Schmid then came to the plate and helped himself
out, poking a two out single into left field to plate Ganshirt. Schmid
then went out and sat down the Libertyville hitters, striking out
the last hitter looking on a nasty curveball.
The Scouts play Libertyville Tuesday, May 17 4:30 pm at LHS.

Lake Forest Frosh A 15 - Broncos 9 (Game 1)
Lake Forest Frosh A 9 - Broncos 1 (Game 2)
Nine different Scouts had hits in a high-scoring slugfest opener of
the doubleheader. Luke Johnson and John Reimer, the Scouts deadly middle-infield
combination, hammered out three hits each and plated a total of six RBIs. Griffin
Brennan reached base four times and had a key double. Marco Loiacano earned
the win with four solid innings of relief for Jack Sentell, who pitched well
in his start.
Robert Kesman pitched a complete game one hitter in the second game
of the double header, throwing only fifty pitches in a masterful performance.
Michael VanAntwerp had an excellent game behind the dish. The offense continued
to roll, pounding out eight hits, including a two-run double by Jack Sentell
and a triple by Reimer. Two other key contributions came from Danny Sullivan,
who had four hits on the day, and Hub Cirame, who crushed the ball in both games
and caught a key pop up with two hands.
Lake Forest Frosh B 12 - Barrington 4 (Game 1)
Lake Forest Frosh B 14 - Barrington 11 (Game 2)
The Scouts took on Barrington HS on Saturday in a chilly doubleheader
and swept the Broncos off their home field. Lake Forest put
up 26 runs total in the two games.
In Game 1, starting pitcher Jack Wonham shut down the Broncos for
four innings while striking out one. Wylie Hardy, Ben Audley, and Mark DiValerio also
threw one inning in the 12-4 Lake Forest victory. At the plate, Jack Kauss
went 2-4 and scored three runs. Tommy Loiacano went 2-3 with two runs, Graham
Ganshirt went 1-2 while also crossing home twice. David Keaton and Charlie
Moss both got beaned twice, marking the first time in IHSA history that two batters
in the same lineup got beaned twice in the same game. DiValerio
belted a double to centerfield, and Micky McKiernan went 1-2 and
scored two runs.
In Game 2, McKiernan got the ball and went three innings--giving
up three runs, and struck out three. Kauss pitched the 4th and 5th, DiValerio pitched
the 6th, and Audley closed the door in the bottom of the seventh. Offensively,
DiValerio and Kauss lead the way, going 4-4 and 3-4 respectively. Both
scored three runs in the game. Loiacano continued swinging a hot bat, going
2-3 with 3RBI. Daniel Josephitis went 2-3, while Keaton, McKiernan, Hardy,
Ganshirt, and Moss also knocked out one hit. Audley belted two hits and
drove in three. Moss, who got beaned twice in game one, got drilled twice
in game two, totaling four HBP in one day. Final score Scouts
14, Broncos 11.
The Scouts take on Libertyville on Monday, May 16 at 4:30 pm at LF West
Campus.
05/13/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 4 - Warren 3
The Scouts continued to roll with a win over the Blue
Devils in conference play. Liam Howe pitched a complete game
for the win, battling a tough-hitting Warren team. The Scouts
were trailing in the sixth when Ryan Cast knocked in two with
a key two-strike hit to the opposite field. Danny Sullivan plated
Howe from third with a safety squeeze to add another run in the
inning. In the seventh, John Reimer had a key hit, was advanced
to second by Hub Cirame, than to third by Robert Kesman, then
scored on a passed ball. Howe held on with a tough performance
on the mound in the bottom of the inning.
Lake Forest Frosh B 3 - Warren 5
The Scouts continued their game from Wednesday
on Friday afternoon and struggled to find the offense
that they started the game with. After scoring three
quick runs in the top of the first, the Scout bats went quiet. The
Scouts managed only four hits the rest of the game, and the Blue
Devils took advantage of a shrunken strike zone against starting
pitcher David Keaton. Keaton
went four innings, struck out four, and allowed four runs. Relief
pitcher Christian Schmid threw two innings and struck out three
Blue Devil batters.
At the plate, Graham Ganshirt went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. Tommy
Loiacano went 1-1 with an RBI and a walk. Defensively,
Ben Audley made an inning ending sliding catch at first base,
with his momentum almost carrying him into the Warren dugout.
The Scouts travel to Barrington High School on Saturday morning,
and take on the Broncos in a non-conference doubleheader starting
at 10 am.
05/12/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 15 - Wauconda 6
The Scouts continued their winning ways with a victory
over Wauconda. In a game where virtually every Scout player had
a hit, there were too many outstanding individual contributions
to mention; however, Joey Beible and Danny Sullivan pitched well,
and Marco Loiacano made his return to the lineup with a key inning
on the hill.
05/11/11
The Scouts hit the road against Warren High
School on Wednesday and only played one inning due
to lightning. They did, however,
take advantage of that one inning of play. Scoring three
runs off of three hits, the Scouts pounded the ball in the top
of the first. A line-drive base hit to right field
by Isaiah Reyes started things for the Scouts. Graham Ganshirt
followed with a triple to deep right field, and Tommy Loiacano
crushed a ball up the middle to score Jack Wonham, who reached
on an error. After the
Scouts batted, lightning peppered the sky, and the game was called. The
game will pick up where it left off on Friday, May 13th, 4:30
pm at Warren H.S.
05/10/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 13 - Warren 7
The Scouts improved their season record to 9-6 with a big win
over the Blue Devils in conference play Tuesday afternoon. JR
Reimer went the distance for the Scouts--surrendering only three
earned runs. Robert Kesman led the offense with a four hit performance
that plated 6 RBI, with key contributions made by Hub Cirame
and Griffin Brennan who had three hits each. Liam Howe also hammered
out a pair of hits in the win.
Lake Forest Frosh B 4 - Warren 5
The Scouts welcomed the Blue Devils of Warren Township High School on Tuesday
and came up on the wrong end of a very intense game. Starting pitcher Ben Audley
was brilliant for the first five innings, striking out five and allowing only
two hits. However, the Warren pitcher was equally impressive, as the Scouts managed
their first hit in the bottom of the fifth. That hit came off the bat of David
Keaton (1-3, 1 run), who started the two-out rally with a laser up the middle.
Tommy Loiacano (1-2, 1 run) and Charlie Moss (1-3, 1 run, 1RBI) continued the
rally, giving the Scouts their first lead of the game. With runners on second
and third, Wylie Hardy (2-3, 2RBI) came to the plate and delivered a huge base
hit up the middle, plating two Scouts. However, in the top of the sixth, a trio
of hits by the Blue Devils and a walk led to four runs. Micky McKiernan replaced
Audley on the mound, and pitched very well in relief, going 1.1 innings and allowing
one run.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mark DiValerio (1-1, 1 run) got the comeback
started, legging out a groundball in the hole. After stealing second, Jack Wonham
delivered a clutch hit up the middle and scored DiValerio, tying the game at
4-4. In the top half of the 7th, scrappy Blue Devil baseball scratched across
the game winning run. But, as they have done all season, the Scouts did not go
down easily. With two outs and no runners on base, Hardy came through again,
smoking a line drive up the middle to breathe life into the Scout dugout. McKiernan
then reached on an errant throw by the shortstop, giving the Scouts runners on
second and third with two outs. But that's where the rally ended, as Billy Bauder
popped up to the first basemen to end the game.
The Scouts look to get even with
Warren on Wednesday at 4:30pm in Gurnee.
05/09/11
Lake Forest Frosh B 17 - Wauconda 1
The Scouts traveled to Wauconda High School on Monday to play a make-up
game against the Bulldogs. Terrific pitching and an overwhelming offense
gave the Scouts the win in five innings and also their biggest margin of victory
all year, 17-1.
Lead by Mark DiValerio (3-5, 2RBI) and Isaiah Reyes (3-4, double), the Scouts
put the game out of reach early. David Keaton was 2-3 with one RBI, and
Graham Ganshirt showed no signs of slowing down, going 2-2 with a double, a triple,
and 4RBI. Starting pitcher Jack Kauss threw three innings of one-run ball,
striking out seven, all while going 2-2 at the plate and crossing home three
times. Christian Schmid came in and closed the door in the fourth and fifth
inning, striking out four Bulldog batters.
Twelve different Scout hitters had at least one hit on the day, including: DiValerio,
Kauss, Schmid, Charlie Moss (double), Keaton, Ben Audley, Tommy Loiacano, Wylie
Hardy, Reyes, Micky McKiernan, and Daniel Josephitis.
The Scouts are back in action on Tuesday at 4:30 pm, as
they take on Warren High School at Lake Forest West Campus.
05/07/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 2 - Lake Zurich 13
The Scouts dropped the first game of the double header against the Bears. After
an extra inning win the night before, the scouts were unable to capitalize on
the momentum of their four game win streak. JR Reimer and Hub Cirame were two
bright spots for the Scouts. Reamer had two hits in the loss and Cirame slammed
a two run double down the line. Another bright spot for the Scouts came in from
Marco Loiacano, who has been impressive in his role as the first base coach and
team scorekeeper.
Lake Forest JV 5 - Lake Zurich 2
The Scouts managed a split in the double header with a win in the JV game. Key
performances: Mike Szeszol pitched well in the first inning;
Robert Kesman threw two scoreless innings, featuring a curve ball that couldn't
be touched; and Danny Sullivan closed the game with a stellar performance.
Lake Forest Frosh B 19 - Lake Zurich 4
Game two of the season series was played on Saturday morning at Lake Zurich High
School. Clearly ready to come out with a different approach than the day
before, the Scouts jumped all over the Bears from the first pitch. After
batting around and six hits, the Scouts found themselves up 8 runs, with David
Keaton on the mound. Keaton went 3 innings, striking out four, and earning
his second win of the season. Mark DiValerio pitched the fourth and final
inning of the game, striking out one. The second inning was even more impressive
than the first. The Scouts batted around again, this time scoring 10 runs
and putting any hopes of a Lake Zurich comeback out of the question. Offensive
highlights came from the bats of Jack Wonham (3-4, double, 2 run), Charlie Moss
(2-3, double, RBI, 3 runs scored), Isiah Reyes (3-3, triple, 5RBI), Graham Ganshirt
(2-2, 2RBI, 3 runs scored), Jack Kauss (3-5, 2RBI, 2 runs scored), Tommy Loiacano
(2-3, double, 2 runs scored) and Micky McKiernan (2-2, 2 run scored). Mark
DiValerio and David Keaton also had a hit in the game. The Scouts are now
10-2 on the year.
Extra game: The Scouts and Bears agreed to play an extra 4inning "scrimmage" game
on Saturday. Starting on the mound for the Scouts was Wylie Hardy, who
claimed to have never pitched in his life. Hardy saw three hitters in his
only inning of work, and sat them down with ease, striking out one LZ hitter. Other
pitchers to get some work in were Billy Bauder, who also threw an inning and
struck out one Bear. Daniel Josephitis pitched the third inning and struck
out two, and Reyes pitched the fourth and final inning and struck out two as
well.
The Scout's next game is Monday @ Wauconda High School. Game time is set for
4:30 pm.
05/06/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 9 - Lake Zurich 3
The Scouts extended their win streak to four with a key conference
win over the Bears. Liam Howe pitched eight strong innings and
Jack Sentell held the lead in the ninth. John Reimer continues
to hammer the ball and added a crushed triple to his tally. Howe
also added a key triple late in the game. With Howe standing
on third base, Ryan Cast dropped down a perfect suicide squeeze
to seal the win for the Scouts.
Lake Forest Frosh B 10 - Lake Zurich 13
The Scouts lost a heartbreaker on Friday against Lake Zurich,
but proved that even the biggest of leads aren't safe against
this team. After the second inning, the Scouts faced a
10-run deficit, but inning by inning, they chipped away at the
Bears, eventually trailing by one run in the fifth inning by
a score of 10-9. The
Scouts biggest inning came in the bottom of the third, when Billy
Bauder led things off with a single. Followed by a Jack Kauss
single and a Tommy Loiacano double, the momentum was clearly in
the Scouts favor. Jack Wonham came up with two runners on
and crushed a ball to deep left field. There are no fences
at LF West, so Wonham had to leg out his first (and team's first)
homerun of the year. After the third inning, the Scout
bats went cold, as they only managed to score two runs from the
fourth inning on. Final score Bears 13, Scouts 10. Some
other offensive highlights came from Isaiah Reyes, who went 2-3
with two triples. Kauss and Bauder both finished 2-3, and
Graham Ganshirt was 2-2 with two runs scored.
05/05/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 11- Lakes 6
The Scouts scored seven in the first inning, led by a grand
slam by Hub Cirame, to pull ahead of the Eagles. Ben Audley
threw five strong innings, then handed the ball to Jack Sentell
and Liam Howe to hold the lead. Luke Johnson, John Reimer,
Griffin Brennan and Ryan Cast all had key hits in the win.
05/04/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 12—Zion Benton 6
The Scouts won their second game in
a row with an impressive offensive performance. Ryan Cast had three hits to lead
the pack with Robert Kesman, John Reimer, Danny Sullivan and Luke Johnson
contributing multi-hit games. Mike Szeszol pitched a complete
game for the Scouts to get the win.
Lake Forest Frosh B 11 - Zion Benton 3
The Scouts bounced back from a close game on Wednesday
with an impressive 11-3 win over visiting Zion Benton. Micky McKiernan started for the Scouts and
pitched brilliantly again, going four innings, striking out one ZeeBee hitter,
and allowing no earned runs. Reid Yamauchi came in and threw the final
three innings, striking out three, and not allowing one ZeeBee runner to cross
home plate.
As great as the Scouts were on the mound, they were equally successful at the
plate. Leading the way with two hits each were McKiernan, Jack Kauss (3
RBI), Graham Ganshirt (2 RBI), and Mark DiValerio. Kauss also played flawless
defense at shortstop. In the first inning, Kauss started an inning-ending
double play. In the top of the sixth, two hard-hit balls were on their
way to left field, when Kauss gloved both and fired across the infield for outs
1 and 2. Wiley Hardy found his way onto the bases in both of his at bats,
drawing walks in his two plate appearances. Charlie Moss went 1-2 with
a clutch 2-RBI base hit, and Daniel Josephitis also ripped a single up the middle
to plate the scouts 10th run.
Lake Forest takes to the field again on Friday, 4:30 pm at LF West Campus against
conference rival Lake Zurich.
05/03/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 11 - Zion Benton 2
The Scouts played
their best game of the season against the ZBs. Joey Beible pitched a complete
game, no hitting Zion for four and 1/3 innings. The defense played near error-free
baseball. Offensively, the Scouts had 11 hits, with seven players contributing.
The best offensive performance of the day came from John Reimer,
who went three for four with two doubles and an RBI. Hub Cirame’s
double plated three base runners, and Jack Sentell added two
RBI's in the effort.
Lake Forest Frosh B 13 - Zion Benton 10
The Scouts were on the road Tuesday against Zion Benton,
and came out victorious, with the final score 13-10. After trailing 6-0 early in the
game, the Scouts erupted for four runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the ZeeBee
lead to two. In
the bottom of the fourth, four more Scouts crossed the plate. After scratching
across a pair of runs in the fifth inning, Zion Benton tied the game at 10-10
in the bottom of the sixth. Charlie Moss lead off the 7th inning and was
hit by the pitch--starting the Scout rally. Ben Audley followed with a
base hit, and Mark DiValerio ripped a line drive into right field, plating both
Moss and Audley. Ryan Cast followed with his second single of the day,
allowing DiValerio to advance to third. Christian Schmid's RBI groundout
gave the Scouts a three-run lead going into the bottom half of the 7th. Cast,
who was pitching his fourth and final inning, closed the door for the Lake Forest
victory.
Isaiah Reyes started for the Scouts and pitched three innings, struck
out two, and allowed 3 earned runs. Cast struck out three ZeeBee hitters
in his four innings of relief work. At the plate, DiValerio lead the way
for the Scouts, going 3-5 with 4 RBI and two runs scored. Jack Wonham
also hit a monster double to deep left field and knocked in four Scouts as well. Graham
Ganshirt continued his hot streak, going 2-5 with an RBI. Micky McKiernan
crossed the plate twice, as did Daniel Josephitis and Reyes. Billy Bauder
also went 2-4 for the Scouts.
Game two of the season series takes place Wednesday, May 4th at 4:30 pm
at LF West Campus.
05/02/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 3 -
Antioch 4
David Keaton pitched a gem giving up only one earned run in his first start for
the A team, striking out 12 in 6 innings of work. Keaton struck out 8 of the
first 9 batters in the game and was untouchable until the fourth inning when
he gave up his first hit. JR Reimer had three hits in a strong effort at second
base, and Hub Cirame drove in two runs with a missile into the gap in the fourth
inning. Luke Johnson continues to play well at short and get on base almost every
time up, and Griffin Brennan keeps hitting the ball hard. Jack Sentell also rifled
a shot into the gap in the fourth inning. Dan Sullivan and Michael VanAntwerp
laid down perfect sacrifice bunts in a pair of solid plays.
04/30/11
Game 1
Lake Forest Frosh A 7- Prospect 5
Joey Beible and Liam Howe combined for a strong performance on the mound,
while Robert Kesman, Hub Cirame, Griffin Brennan Luke Johnson and John Reimer
carried the offense. Kesman's three-run homer proved to be the decisive shot
in the win. Brennan delivered a key two-out hit to start the winning rally. Michael
Van Antwerp continued his stellar play in the outfield along with Howe and Kesman.

a Prospect miscue and a walk, Ganshirt delivered the game winning hit,
scoring two. Isaiah Reyes also recorded a hit and an RBI.
Game 2
Lake Forest Frosh A 5 - Prospect 15
The Scouts took a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning, led by key
hits from Mike Szesol, Johnson, Brannan, Cirame, Kesman and a host
of others, but saw the game's momentum change late.
Lake Forest Frosh B 11 - Prospect High School 1
In Game two, the Scouts jumped out to an early lead and never looked
back, scoring six in the bottom of the first. Ganshirt continued
his big day at the plate, going two for two with a single, double,
and 3 RBI. Ganshirt also hit a foul ball into the teeth of the
wind that cleared the Lake Forest fence, easily surpassing 400 ft on
a clear day. Reyes had two hits and two RBI in the game. Daniel
Josephitis and Jack Wonham also smacked doubles. On the mound,
Ben Audley pitched a gem, going four innings, giving up one run, and
striking out four. David Keaton pitched the fifth inning striking
out one as well. In the bottom of the fifth, the Scouts needed
one run to seal the victory by slaughter rule. After Josephitis'
double, Wiley Hardy came to the plate and ripped a shot down the third
base line, scoring Josephitis and giving Lake Forest their third "walk
off" hit in three games.
The Scouts play again 4:30 pm on Tuesday at Zion-Benton
High School.
04/29/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 3 - Stevenson 4
The Scouts rebounded from an eight
day layoff with a well-played game, but lost to the Patriots by one run. John
Reimer pitched six stellar innings and benefitted from a defensive masterpiece
by centerfielder Liam Howe, shortstop Luke Johnson, catcher Griffin
Brennan and the rest of the team. Johnson also hit the ball well
and scored a run, as did Brennan and Howe. The game came down
to the last inning when the Patriots were able to push four runs
across the plate.
Lake Forest Frosh B 5 - Stevenson 4
The Scouts got back into action Friday afternoon as they hosted
Stevenson to wrap up the season series. After trailing the Patriots 3-0,
the Scouts took advantage of wild Stevenson pitching--scoring three
runs of their own on 4 walks in the bottom of the second. Graham
Ganshirt hit an RBI triple to start the rally. Jack Wonham started
for the Scouts, pitching three innings and striking out 3. Micky
McKiernan was brilliant in relief, pitching five innings and
only giving up one run, while striking out two.
LF trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, but scratched
a run across to tie it up. In the bottom of the 8th, Isaiah Reyes
drew a walk, stole second, was moved over to third on a beautiful sacrifice
bunt by Billy Bauder, and scored the winning run on a missile down
the third base line by Mark DiValerio. DiValerio went 2-5
in the game, while Reyes drew two walks and scored two runs.
The Scouts are back in action Saturday, as they take on
Prospect High School in a doubleheader starting at 11 am at LF West
Campus.
04/21/11
Lake Forest Frosh A 1 - Stevenson 2
The Freshmen A team dropped a close
game in conference play at home. Liam Howe didn’t give up an earned run in a complete
game performance. The Scouts played extremely well defensively
with excellent outfield play by Michael Van Antwerp, Jack Sentell,
Ryan Cast, Robert Kesman and Michael Szesol. Luke John had two
hits in the pitcher’s duel, but a number of players hit
the ball hard.
Lake Forest Frosh B 4 - Stevenson 5
The Scouts suffered their first loss of the season 5-4 on Thursday
at Stevenson High School. The game came down to the last out though, as Billy
Bauder was on first base, and Jack Kauss (running for Wiley Hardy, who drew a
