Lake Forest 56 - Chicago Vocational 42
The Scouts opened up their 2010-11 season with a 56-42 win over
CVS in the first game of the Billy Schnurr Tournament at Niles
West. Lake Forest is incorporating plenty of new faces
into the line-up this year as Carter Bass, Jack Ford and Thomas
Durrett are the only returning players who logged healthy minutes
last season. The inexperience was evident as the Scouts
got off to a slow start and trailed 9-8 at the end of the first
quarter. A barrage of 3-pointers in the second quarter
helped the Scouts feel more comfortable as they outscored CVS
24-7 to take a 32-16 lead at the half. Alex Schwartz
came off the bench and scored 8 points in the quarter with 2
three-pointers. Thomas Durrett found his range and had
three 3-pointers of his own in the second. Lake Forest
was able to maintain their lead throughout the second half and
were never threatened. Lake Forest’s defense was the key
as CVS had only 5 total field goals through the first three quarters. Bass
led the way with 17 points; Durrett added 15 and Schwartz had
14.
The Scouts’ first test of the young
season will come Wednesday as they play Glenbrook North in Game
