Head, Boys' Varsity Basketball
Phil enters his third year at Lake Forest High School as Head
Boy’s Basketball Coach. Phil has coached both at the high
school and collegiate levels. He was an assistant coach at Benedictine
University in Lisle, IL under Head Coach Keith Bunkenburg. Benedictine
was 21-7 and nationally ranked in the top 20 throughout the season.
He also was an assistant for his father at Benedictine University
in 1994 and 1995. Phil served as an assistant at Mt. Carmel High
School for seven years. He played high school basketball at Benet
Academy. He was captain of his team senior year. He graduated
from Eastern Illinois University and received his MBA from Benedictine
University. He teaches Business Education classes at Lake Forest
High School. Phil is married to his wife Stacey and resides on
the North Side of Chicago.
Joe Harmsen

Assistant, Boys' Varsity Basketball
Coach Harmsen has been coaching varsity basketball since 2000.
Joe is a Fond du lac, Wisconsin native. Joe was a top 100 recruit coming
out of high school. He played his college basketball at Northwestern
University under Ricky Birdsong and Kevin O’Neil. Joe coached
at the collegiate level for the last four years. He worked recently
at the University of Dayton as Graduate Assistant where he developed
the Flyers interior players. He was also an assistant coach at Concordia
University in River Forest, IL for three years. Joe is single and resides
in Wauconda. He received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Northwestern
University and his Master's in Secondary Education from Concordia.
He works at Lake Forest High School in Student Services.
Chris Faggi

Head, Boys' Sophomore Basketball
Chris Faggi has been with the Scouts program for over six
years. He is a graduate of McNeese State University (Lake Charles,
LA). Chris went to Loyola High School in Wilmette. Chris has been coaching
at different levels in the Lake Forest program. Chris played in the
NBA and overseas for 10 years. Chris works with the post players and
has a great knowledge for the game. He currently works for Allstate
Insurance. He lives in Lincolnshire with his wife Lynn.
Darren Barndt

Assistant, Boys' Sophomore Basketball
Darren Barndt began his coaching career in southern Illinois. He played
baseball for two years at Lincoln Trail Junior College. He transferred
to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he began his basketball
career by working as a manager for the men's' basketball team. He coached
two years at East Richland (Olney) High School and was the varsity
basketball coach at Kansas High School, Kansas, IL, for two years.
At Lake Forest, Coach Barndt has worked at the Freshmen, Sophomore
and Varsity levels as an assistant. He received his Bachelor's degree
from Southern Illinois University and his Master's From Roosevelt University.
Darren teaches in the Technology Department at LFHS.
Kyle Wilhelm

Head, Boys' Freshmen Coach
Coach Wilhelm has been Assistant Boys' Freshmen Coach since
2006. Prior to that he assisted on the Sophomore level for a year.
Kyle started his basketball career at Mundelein High School. He played
for his father Perry at Mundelein. He led his team to a 20-win season
his senior year. He went on to continue playing basketball at the collegiate
level at Monmouth College. He majored in Mathematics, and joined the
Math Department at Lake Forest High School. Kyle works with the guards
and has brought great enthusiasm to the program. Kyle currently resides
in Mundelein.
Steve Johnson

Assistant, Boys' Freshmen Coach
Steve is a graduate of Bethel College in Minnesota. He played basketball
for four years at Bethel. Steve brings some excellent coaching experience
to our program. He coached as an assistant at Lake Zurich high school
for 5 years. He looks forward to working with young players in our
program and making sure they are given the fundamentals to insure they
can get the most out of their ability. Steve works as the Department
Chair of our Special Education Department. He is married and has 5
daughters.
