2/21/08
Lake Forest 50 North Chicago 52
The Scouts put a solid effort all game, just to get beat at the
buzzer by a 3. Tommy Rees was having a big game, but went down early
in the second quarter and could not return. TJ Cox hit some big
baskets late in the game which gave the Scouts the lead. In the
end, turnovers and a lack of one key rebound put an end to the game.
The Scouts were 2-2 in their last four games without Hopfinger, and
Coach Faggi really liked the way the rest of the team stepped up. The
team
finished the season with a 21-4 record, 10-2 in the NSC, tied with
Zion. They won the Thanksgiving tournament, placed second in the
Holiday classic, and
were undefeated at home with an 11-0 record. Coach Faggi says, "This
team has taken steps to becoming a solid boost to our program. They
have a long way to go, but I think the baby steps they made this season
will make the transition to the Varsity program next year a little
bit easier. This team has worked hard all season, and I am very proud
of the work they have put in. This school should be proud of
these players because they represent what is good with high school
sports. They have shown that hard work does pay off. I wish them
the best in their next endeavors. It has been a privilege to
coach them."
02/18/08
Lake Forest 48 Lakes 32
It was a struggle early as the Scouts had trouble with the trapping
zone of the Eagles. The second half started a 10-0 run, and
the Scouts never looked back. The Scouts' record is
21-3.
Next up: the last game of the season
against the Prairie Champs, North Chicago, on
February 21.
02/15/08
Lake Forest 39 Zion 50
In a close first half, the Scouts held a narrow 18-16 lead, but a
20-point 3rd quarter was too much for the Scouts to overcome. The
Scouts finished the NSC Lake with a 10-2 record and in a tie with
Zion.
02/08/08
Lake Forest 40 Lake Zurich 34
The Scouts were without Hopfinger (varsity)

out with a 10-0 run and put the game away. Hopfinger and Rees
led the way with 15 and 13 points.

Lake Forest 61 Warren 53 OT
For the second straight time, the Scouts and Warren played an overtime
game. Up
by as many as 8 with under 1:20 to play, the Scouts couldn't handle
the ball, which led to Warren tying the game at the buzzer. In
overtime, the Scouts took control as TJ Cox put the game away with
4 free throws, and Bruns took a charge. Hopfinger and Rees
led the attack with 16 points.
01/12/08
Libertyville 52 Lake Forest 42
The Scouts came up slow during the first quarter and never recovered.
Shooting 25% from the floor and poor defense was the downfall. The
Scouts had the lead (42-38) with 2:20 in the 4th quarter,
but did not score for the rest of the game.
Next up: 1/18 Warren; 1/19 At Deerfield
01/08/08
Lake Forest 76 - Zion Benton 69
With first place in the NSC on the line, this game was exactly
what was expected. Both teams, with high powered offenses,
got it going early and didn't stop until the final horn. Hopfinger
led the attack with 37 points in one of the best performances by
an LFHS underclassmen in recent times. Freshman
TJ Cox, in his first start, was fantastic seeing the court and hitting
the open man. Bruns, Grimes and Rees did a great job of rebounding. With
the Scout's bench getting better all the time, the team should be
able to take their game to a new level. Great efforts by Stavropoulos,
Gaughn, Mires and Christensen have deepened the team.
Next game: Saturday, January 12, at Libertyville.
12/19/07
Lake Forest 63 - Lake Zurich 31
The Scouts jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and never looked
back. Crilly and Rees led the attack with 14 points.
12/15/07
Lake Forest 44 - Stevenson 27
In what was the Scouts seventh game in less than two weeks, you would
have never known it with the defensive effort they all put forth.
Stevenson never got into double figures in any quarter as the perimeter
pressure continued throughout the game. The Scouts were led
by Hopfinger with 16, and Bruns had 15 rebounds as a 16-point third
quarter put the game away.
Next Up: Lake Zurich 12/19 at home and then
a well deserved Holiday break
12/14/07
Lake Forest 71 - Mundelein 38
In a game that really started off badly for the Scouts, the team
got it together for a very important NSC road win. With all the games
in a row, the Scouts did not turn up the defense until the second
quarter. After giving up 15 points in the first quarter, the Scouts
turned up the heat and caused 22 turnovers. The Scouts were
led by Hopfinger with 19 and Bruns with 11. Coming off the bench,
Stavropoulos gave the Scouts a lot of energy with his defensive prowess. In
the second quarter, Grimes
did a fantastic job on their big man.
12/12/07
Loyola Academy 65 Lake Forest 60
In the championship game at Niles North, the Scouts were handed
their first loss. Loyola pounded the ball inside, and the Scouts had
trouble stopping their post players. Down 3 at the start of the
4th, the Scouts took a six-point lead. Loyola answered with great
offensive rebounding. The game was a very physical game, but in the
end their inside play was more than the Scouts could handle. The
Scouts finish the tournament portion of their schedule with a 5-1 record,
with a 1st and 2nd
place finish. With no time to relax, the Scouts hit the
road on 12/14 for a NSC tilt at Mundelein.
12/10/07
Lake Forest 54 Niles North 40
It was probably the Scout's best defensive game of the
season. The
team forced 22 turnovers, which led to 24 points. We still
need to protect the ball, but that will come with time.
Next up: 12/12 Championship Game at Niles North vs. Loyola, 12/14
At
Mundelein, 12/15 At Stevenson
12/8/07
Lake Forest 61 Palatine
54
In a game of runs, the Scouts seemed to have the first
run and held off the Palatine run. Again with the lead most of
the night, the Scouts had trouble putting away the pesky Pirates.
The Scouts were led by Hopfinger with 21, but Rees(13 points) hit
the offensive boards late in the game which kept the Scouts ahead.
Scouts need to do a better job with the lead . We stop attacking
and make poor judgments, but all of that will be fixed. Crilly
added 10, Bruns had 11
Next up comes the longest stretch of the year: 12/10
at Niles North, 12/12 TBA at Niles North, 12/14 at Mundelein, 12/15
at Stevenson.
On the lighter side, Team Tasos defeated all the other teams in the
annual bowling challenge. Coach Barndt lead all bowlers with
a game high 215. Team Tasos defeated Team Gaughn by only 8
pins after 3 games.
12/5/07
Lake Forest 54 Maine South 50 ( Niles
North Holiday Classic)
The Scouts took a little time getting started. As
in the previous games, the team would get big leads and watch them
dwindle. It was nice to get another road win even though the players
were tired from the Warren game. Anthony Quall, put the game away
with two free throws with under a minute left.
Next up At Palatine 12/8 and Niles North on 12/10
12/4/07
Lake Forest 59 -Warren 53 (Overtime)
In what should have been a defensive battle, the game got out right
offensive. The
Scouts jumped out to a solid lead, but a lack of offensive patents
allowed Warren back in the game. The Scouts
were down 4 with under two minutes and finally tied the game with two
free throws by Mitch Hopfinger. With the game in the balance
in overtime, Coach Barndt called a trapping set, which allowed Hopfinger
to make a steal and put the game away. Hopfinger lead the attack
with 28 points and Crilly added 13. It moved the record to
5-0 and a 2-0 record in the NSC. A great win away from home.
Next up: Maine South at Niles North 12/5 and at Palatine 12/8
11/30/07
Lake Forest 62 - Libertyville 56
B game
Lake Forest 42 Libertyville 35
In the A game, the battle between two undefeated teams was all that
could have been expected. Both teams played very hard and showed
great
offensive fire power. The teams were tied at halftime, and
Libertyville
had a one-point lead entering the 4th quarter. The Scouts turned
up the
defense and went on a 12-2 run, while holding off a late charge, to
put the game
away. Mitch Hopfinger lead the attack with 23 points, but it was Tommy
Rees' 16 foot jump shot with 2:25 to play that put the game back in
the
Scouts control. Josh Bruns had 11 and Freshman TJ Cox provided
some
great leadership down the stretch.
Next Up: Tuesday at Warren, Wednesday at
Niles North vs. Maine South
and Saturday at Palatine.
11/20/07
Lake Foret 59 - Grayslake 27
A dominating defense shut down a very good offensive team. It was
a very physical game, which really showed that the Scouts can
play any style. With a very young season, the Scouts are taking
steps in improving as a team. The Scouts were lead by Ryan Atherley's
12 points.
11/21/07 Championship Game
Lake Forest 48 - Glenbrook North 29
Ryan Crilly with 16 points and Josh
Bruns with 11 led the attack, with great guard play by Atherley. A
great start to this game propelled the Scouts to a dominate victory. Glenbrook
North is a very solid defensive team, and the Scouts executed their
fast break to perfection. A stifling defense caused GBN to
take bad shots and not execute their potent offense. It was
a great way to end the "pre-season." With Libertyville
in the conference opener, the Scouts
have their work cut out for them as they enter the second phase
of their season.
Next up Libertyville November 30 at LFHS
11/19/07
Lake Forest 57 - Highland Park 34
The Scouts won their opening game of the Thanksgiving Tournament
with a very good defensive effort. All players contributed to the
win. Leading scorers were Josh Bruns with 11 points and Mitch Hopfinger
with 10. Next
games: Tuesday, Nov. 20, vs Grayslake Central; Wednesday, Nov. 21,
vs Glenbrook North--at East Campus.
