Henry Mynatt: Pioneer Press Runner of the Year--read more

11/07/09

Congratulations to Henry Mynatt on his race at State! Henry ran to a 28th-place finish in a course PR of 15:04 (just 3 seconds and 3 positions from All State honors.) and 24 seconds better than last year's State meet performance. In what turned out to be a very warm day for November, Henry ran a very strong race--just as he has become accustomed to doing over the past two years. This was the highest finish by a Lake Forest runner since 1985, when Jim Gibson won the State title. It was a great finish to a very successful career! (Check Meet Results for meet stats)

Henry will be participating in the MIDEAST MEET OF CHAMPIONS on an all-Senior team to represent Illinois in a meet against runners from the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan on November 21 in Kettering, Ohio.

Henry Mynatt qualifies for STATE!
On Saturday the Scouts' Cross Country team competed in the IHSA Sectional meet at Schaumburg's Busse Woods. In conditions that where not ideal for running fast times (windy and extremely muddy) the Scouts ran to a 9th place team finish. Henry Mynatt took control of the race through the first mile to lead the team as he finished the race in 7th place overall and qualifying him to the IHSA State finals next weekend in Peoria. Zach Silber was next in for the Scouts as he finished 46th to led a tight pack of harriers across the finish line. Jonathan Briskman finished 54th followed closely by Brian Barker (61st) and Colin Briskman (64th) to end the scoring members of the team. Chris Charhut, in his first Sectional experience, finished 97th--just ahead of Andrew Farver in 104th. This senior group leaves behind a legacy that includes 3 Lake County Championships, 1 undefeated dual meet season and a NSC Division title, 1 NSC Conference Meet Championship (2 second place finishes), 1 Regional title (2 second place finishes), and 1 Team qualifier to the IHSA State Finals (2nd team in school history). 2009 Regional Champions

Congratulations to the Lake Forest Scouts--2009 Regional Champions!
On what was a slow, wet, and sloppy course on a nice sunny day the Lake Forest Scouts captured the regional title on Saturday. Led by Henry Mynatt (15:27 - course PR) and his individual regional title the Scouts scored 49 points to the 62 points posted by both Glenbrook North and South. Zach Silber finished 7th overall and 2nd for the Scouts in a course PR of 16:07 and Brian Barker was 10th overall in a course PR of 16:15. After a fall mid way through the race, Jonathan Briskman regained focus and rhythm to garner a 13th overall position in a course PR of 16:17. Chris Charhut continues to move up the roster as he rounded out LF's scoring 5 by placing 15th overall in a course PR of 16:20. Colin Briskman, suffering a stomach issue at 2 miles, fought tough the last mile to finish 18th overall in what still ends up being a course PR of 16:35. In his second best race of the season, Andrew Farver finished in the 20th position, while still fighting some nagging persistent back issues. His time of 16:46 was good enough to put him ahead of every other teams' (except GBS) 4th man. At one point in the race the Scouts had positions 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 and seemed to be in complete control all race. Next up for the Scouts is the IHSA Sectional at Busse Woods on Saturday 10-31-09, 11:30 am.

The Frosh-Soph boys headed south to Highland Park for the second annual HP Frosh-Soph Invite.  In the Freshmen race the Scouts were led by Matt Hughes (8th) in a time of 12:02 for 2.1 miles. Other scoring Freshmen were Mark Benson (14th 12:43), Frank Theodore (17th 13:31), Jack Stride (24th 14:24), and Connal McLean (27th 15:03).  The Frosh were 4th in the 5-team meet.  In the Sophomore race the Scouts came close to having an individual champion as Eshwar Nandam led or co-led the race until the last 50m to finish second in 11:11.  Will Martin was close behind to take 5th in 11:28.  Strong team running by Peter Grum (13th 12:08), Fritz Arnson (14th 12:12), Collin Barnwell (16th 12:17), Jack Lynch (17th 12:22), and Henry Lamp (18th 12:24) secured a team championship at the Sophomore level.  Overall, the Sophomore squad had 9 guys run a course PR; Charlie Allen, Fritz Arnson, Cliff Brune, Peter Grum, John Harmon, Mark Kulas, Jack Lynch, Corbin Neville, and Chance Shea. It was a great way for the Frosh-Soph to end their 2009 season with hope of great things to come in 2010. Congratulations to the Scouts Cross Country team for their second place team finish.
The squad was led by Henry Mynatt in a second place individual finish. The next three Scouts all ran course PR's (Jonathan Briskman, Colin Briskman, and Zach Silber). Brian Barker rounded out our scoring five. In the JV and Frosh races Lake Forest had a superb day as 33 runners ran to a course record at Warren, led by Matt TenPas and Ben Sperry (2nd and 3rd respectively in the JV race). Of those 33 course PR's 24 where lifetime bests, a great way to end the season and career for the five seniors who ran a lifetime best in their final race for the Scouts (Kyle Gaughan, Tucker Moore, Graeme Murphy, George Schaller, Matt Tenpas)

Coming off a weekend invite at Antioch where our JV lineup raced strongly to a season high of 30 course PR's over the very hilly and demanding course at Fox River Park in Wilmont, WI, the Scouts conquered the Antioch Invite champions in a dual meet at Warren on Monday.  In another strong team performance, led by Henry Mynatt's solo 15:17 (9 sec off the course record) we saw another 30 runners run a course PR at the O'Pleine campus course including three guys (Mark Benson, Tyler Buddell, and Christian Stolzman) who ran sub 19:00 for the first time.  This was our last race prior to the Conference Championship which will be back at Warren on October 17.

09/26/09

In what was a highly competitive meet (13 of the 31 teams are state ranked) the boys squad fell short of their desired team results. Despite the team place of 12th, Henry Mynatt had a minor breakout in his race with some of the states best by finishing 15th overall in a time of 14:46. In the Sophomore race the Scouts beat mighty YORK in finishing 9th overall. The Soph's were led by the one-two punch of Chris Charhut and Eshwar Nandam (21st and 32nd respectively). In the Open race Ryan Crilly, in his third race of the season, fought hard to finish 35th overall in a time of 16:27. Overall 11 Scouts ran course PR's. (Check Meet Results for team stats.)

09/19/09

On Saturday the Scouts attended the Warren Invitational, on what was a fantastic late summer day. The weather was conducive to fast running, and that is what the Scouts did. Nearly every Scout ran a season best time for three miles and 25 ran course PR's at the O'Plaine campus course. The F/S race was led by Alex Acker and Will Oakley as they guided the Scouts to a 5th place team finish in the 20-team field. The JV race was led by Ryan Crilly (13th) in his first race of the season coming off of injury. He was closely followed by Zach Seikel (19), Joey Scarim (20) and Peter Neubauer (23). Unofficially, the Scouts finished 3rd of 22 teams. In the Varsity race, Andrew Farver led the Scouts to a 9th place team finish by finishing 26th in the race. Ben Sperry (45th), Chris Charhut (59th), Thomas Beilke (73rd), and Will Martin (75th) rounded out our scoring members. Next for the Scouts is a dual meet at Half Day Forest Preserve with Stevenson and Zion Benton on Monday 9/21/09 and then the much anticipated Palatine Invite next Saturday.

The Scout harriers wrapped up their home course season today. (photos) Despite a poor team score the Scouts had a great meet based on individual standards, as 27 members of the squad ran a course PR.  Of those 27, four were seniors who ended their home career running their fastest times over the West Campus Course.  The Frosh - Soph continue to show growth and several are closing the gap to our top 7.
