Scouts in First Place Going Into Final Round.
Lake Forest’s boys' golf team will take a seven-stroke lead
into Saturday’s final round of the 36-hole IHSA-sanctioned
state tournament, being held at Illinois State
University in Normal.
The defending state-champion Scouts fired a four-man, 18-hole
team score of 303, which is seven shots ahead of Lyons. Naperville
North is third at 313, followed by Loyola Academy (314) and Carmel
(316).
In the individual competition, LF senior Joe Willis is in first
place with a 1-under 71. Also scoring for the Scouts on Friday were
Ian Mankoff (75), Nick Steffens (77) and Matt Garrity (80). Drew
Takacs had an 81 and Charlie Marshall an 82.

The Scouts earned their return trip
to the State Tournament with a victory at the Fremd Sectional held
at Hilldale Golf Course on Monday. Their 301 total tied Carmel for the championship. Both
teams earned the right to go Downstate, along with Barrington. Ian
Mankoff led the way, shooting a 3 over-par 74. This included a
blistering 4-under 32 on the back nine. Charlie Marshall and Drew
Takacs added a pair of 75’s and Joe Willis finished off the scoring
with a 77.
The Scouts leave for Bloomington Wednesday to pursue their
second straight State Championship, which will be held Friday and Saturday
at The Den Golf Course.

Scouts Win Regional Title!
The Scouts began their pursuit of another state title Tuesday
at the Mundelein Regional held at Steeple Chase Golf Course.
Led by medalist Joe Willis’ outstanding two-under par
70, Lake Forest shot a 293 for the victory. Ian Mankoff shot
a stellar 73, while Matt Garrity and Drew Takacs added a pair
of 75’s.
Next up for the Scouts is the Sectional on Monday
hosted by Fremd at Hilldale Golf Course in Hoffman Estates.
09/24/11--Another First Place for the Scouts
(1) Lake Forest Blue - 286; (2) New Trier - 303; (3) Lake Forest
Gold - 304
The Scouts hosted its own McDermand Invitational on Saturday
at Lake Bluff. Lake Forest fielded two
teams in this 16 team tournament; amazingly, not one of the Scout’s
twelve players shot above a 78. The Blue team won
the tournament with an outstanding team score of 2-under par 286. Charlie
Marshall, Joe Willis, and Nick Steffens each shot a one under 71. Marshall
won the individual title through a scorecard playoff. Willis
finished second and Steffens finished 5th. Ian Mankoff shot
a 73 to finish the scoring. Drew Takacs shot a 77 and Matt
Garrity a 78 for the Blue team.
The Gold team finished in
third place, just one shot behind runner-up New Trier, with a 304. Mac
Mardjetko was low with a 74, earning him an 8th place medal. Alex
Applebaum (76), Chad Williams (77), and Henry Briggs (77) rounded
out the scoring. Jack Hermes and Mike Martin eack shot 78’s. Overall,
it was a great day for the Scouts to show off their depth and talent.
Next up for Lake Forest is the North Suburban Conference Championship
Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Willow Glen G.C.
09/20/11 -- First Place for LF
Lake Forest played in the prestigious Highland Park Quad
on Tuesday at Northmoor Country Club. Competing against state powers
New Trier, Loyola, and Highland Park, the Scouts proved up to the
task, shooting a 150 and winning by eight shots over runner-up
New Trier. Loyola shot a 161 and the host school came in
with a 165. Nick Steffens was medalist with an even-par 36. His
teammates lined up right behind him as Charlie Marshall (37), Joe
Willis, (38) and Matt Garrity (39) contributed to the victory. Even
Ian Mankoff (40) and Drew Takacs (41) showed the consistency that
has been the Scout’s strength this season.
Lake Forest hosts Lake Zurich Thursday, Sept. 22.

Lake Forest 156 - Libertyville 168
The Scouts hosted Libertyville at Knollwood Country Club
on Monday and came away with a 156-168 victory. Charlie Marshall
was medalist with a 37. Chad Williams shot a 39 while Corbon Heizer
and Mac Mardjetko each added 40’s.
Next up for LF is the HP Quad
at Northmoor Country Club on Tuesday.
09/17/11
The Scouts once again split the squad on Saturday and
performed impressively. At the 26-team
Wheeling Invitational
held at Chevy Chase, Lake Forest shot a 301
to win the title by ten shots over runner-up Barrington. Ian
Mankoff earned a 4th-place trophy with a 73, while Matt Garrity
finished strong to shoot a 74, which put him in 5th Place. Nick
Steffens (76) and Joe Willis (78) also helped Lake Forest to this
big win.
The Scouts also played at Steeple Chase in the Mustang
Invitational hosted by Mundelein. Lake
Forest finished with a 312, good enough for a second-place finish
behind the host school. Jack
Hermes led the Scouts with a 76. Right behind him were Corbon
Heizer (77) and Henry Briggs (78). Alex Applebaum rounded
out the scoring with an 81. Lake Forest plays Libertyville today,
Sept. 19, at Knollwood Country Club.

Lake Forest 144 - Stevenson 157
On Friday, Lake Forest traveled
to the Arboretum to play an important conference match against Stevenson. The Scouts were up to
the challenge as they came away with a convincing 144-157 victory. Drew
Takacs was medalist with a one-under par 35. He was followed
closely by Joe Willis and Ian Mankoff, each who shot 36 and also
by Henry Briggs, who shot a 37.

Lake Forest 142 - Vernon Hills 154
The Scouts traveled to White Deer Run Wednesday to take Vernon
Hills. Lake Forest shot an outstanding two-under par as
a team to win 142 - 154. Mac Mardjetko and Joe Willis led
the way, each shooting a one-under par 35. Drew Takacs
and Chad Williams followed closely behind with even-par scores
of 36.

Lake Forest 146 -Warren 162
The Scouts hosted Warren in an important conference match on Tuesday. Led
by the even-par scores of 36 by Jack Hermes and Ian Mankoff, Lake
Forest won 146-162. Henry Briggs and Alex Applebaum were right
behind with 37’s.
Next up is a trip to White Deer Run to take
on Vernon Hills on Wednesday, Sept. 14 .

The Scouts secured two victories Saturday in impressive fashion. At
Shepherd’s Crook, Lake Forest won the
Zee-Bee Invitational with a 295 total, beating runner-ups Stevenson
and Prospect by ten shots. Joe Willis was the individual champion with a one-under
par 70. Matt Garrity finished second with a 71. Charlie
Marshall and Corbon Heizer added a pair of 77’s to help the
Scouts to the victory.
At Sunset Valley, Lake Forest faced
Highland Park and New Trier in the Giant Triangular. Lake
Forest’s
313 total was good enough for a six-shot victory. Alex
Applebaum led the Scouts with a 77. Mike Martin’s 78 along
with Mac Mardjetko’s and Jack Hermes’ 79 provided the
cushion the team needed.

Lake Forest 152 - Zion-Benton 171
Glen Flora Country Club was the site for yesterday’s
match versus Zion-Benton. Led by Ian Mankoff’s even-par score
of 36, the Scouts emerged victorious by a 152-171 score. Alex
Applebaum shot a 37 while Matt Garrity (39) and Drew Takacs (40)
contributed to the win.
Next up is another Saturday, another
split squad as the Scouts travel to Shepherd’s Crook for
the Zee-Bee Invitational and to Sunset Valley for the Giant Triangular.
09/03/11
The Varsity posted two outstanding scores in its tournaments
on Saturday but did not get the desired results. One group
of Scouts traveled to Buffalo Grove to play in the prestigious Bison
Invitational. Lake Forest finished in
third place with a score of 294. Joe Willis and
Ian Mankoff continued their fine play, shooting a 73 and 74 respectively. Charlie Marshall added a
76 while Drew Takacs and Matt Garrity chipped in with a pair of 77’s. The
294 total was a combination of the team’s best four scores
on each nine.
At the same time, another group was hosting a
quad involving Carmel, Loyola, and Zion. The Scout’s
total of 301 put them two strokes behind Carmel. Henry Briggs
finished in second place individually with a 73. Chad Williams
and Jack Barrie tied for fourth with a pair of 75’s. Jack
Hermes’ 78 rounded out the scoring.

Lake Forest 146 - Mundelein 151
The Scouts traveled to Steeple Chase GC Thursday to take
on the Mustangs of Mundelein. Knowing how tough Mundelein is
on its home course, Lake Forest came ready to play. In
a historic performance, every player shot a counting score as
the Scouts won 146-151. Joe Willis was the medalist with a
one-under 35; the rest of the team all shot 37’s. Charlie
Marshall, Ian Mankoff, Nick Steffens, Mac Mardjetko, and Matt Garrity
helped lead the Scouts to this important win.
Lake Forest splits the squad once again
on Saturday, Sept. 3, as they host a Quad at Lake Bluff and travel
to play in the Buffalo Grove Invitational as well.
08/31/11
LFHS 146 - Lake Forest Academy 162
The Varsity hosted Lake Forest Academy Wednesday and came away with
a 146-162 victory. Drew Takacs was the medalist with a sizzling
two-under par 34. Chad Williams was right behind with a 35. Henry
Briggs (38) and Corbon Heizer (39) rounded out the scoring. The
Scouts travel to Mundelein today to take on the Mustangs.

Lake Forest won the Warren Invitational
Saturday at difficult Bittersweet Golf Course. The Scouts were led by individual medalist Joe Willis
who shot a 73. Matt Garrity finished in second, one stroke behind
with a 74. Ian Mankoff (79) and Nick Steffens (78) also contributed
to the victory. Lake Forest hosts Lake Forest Academy on Wednesday.
08/22/11
On Monday, the Scouts split the squad to play in the Lake County
Invitational at Shepherd’s Crook and the Glenbrook South
Invitational at Hawthorne Woods. The team’s amazing
depth showed as Lake Forest won one tournament and placed second
by one shot in the other. At Shepherd’s Crook,
the Scouts 302 total put them one stroke behind champion Mundelein. Charlie
Marshall led the way with a one over par 72, which earned him a
third place medal. Ian Mankoff finished in seventh place
with a 74. Corbon Heizer and Jack Barrie added a pair of
78’s.
At Hawthorne Woods, site
of the Illinois Open, Lake Forest emerged victorious with a 304 to
defeat state powers Glenbrook North, Highland Park, and New Trier. Joe
Willis led the way again with a one-under par 71. Drew Takacs
shot a 76 while Matt Garrity and Mac Mardjetko added 78’s.
Lake Forest is back in action on Saturday, August 27,
in the Warren Invitational at Bittersweet.
08/18/11
On Thursday, Lake Forest traveled to Plum Tree National to play
in the prestigious Woodstock Invitational. The
Scouts shot a 315, which was good enough for third place. Joe
Willis led the way with a 74, which put him in fourth place. Ian
Mankoff (79), Nick Steffens (80), and Charlie Marshall (81) contributed
for Lake Forest.
08/17/11
The Varsity Golf Team opened up the 2011 season
with a second place showing at the Raider Classic held at The Den,
host of the State Championship. The Scouts tied with
Barrington with a 300, but lost on a fifth-score tiebreaker. Leading
the way for LF was the Tournament Medalist, Nick Steffens with a
one-under par 71. Joe Wills shot a 73, good enough for fourth
place. Also
scoring for the Scouts were Ian Mankoff (77) and Corbon Heizer
(79).
