Lake Forest Places Third at State--Congratulations Scouts!

Four swimmers, Daniel Smith, Colin Rowe, Bogdan Balteanu, and Peter Grumhaus, along with diver Andrew Marsh represented Lake Forest High School last weekend at the 2013 IHSA State meet, where LFHS placed 3rd. It was the first time in 10 years that the Scouts have brought home the trophy. 

The 200 Medley Relay consisting of Daniel Smith, Bogdan Balteanu, Peter Grumhaus and Colin Rowe placed 2nd in a school record-setting time of 1:33.3. Peter Grumhaus finished 2nd in the 200 free and placed 2nd in the 500 free in a school record setting time of 4:24.24. Colin Rowe finished 4th in the 100 free, Andrew Marsh placed 8th in the 1 meter diving, and Daniel Smith placed 12th in the 100 back as a sophomore. The 400 Free Relay consisting of Colin Rowe, Bogdan Balteanu, Daniel Smith and Peter Grumhaus, placed 2nd to New Trier with an amazing time of 3:04.02. 

The Scouts celebrated their season last night with a great banquet where Peter Grumhaus was named Most Valuable. Other awards given were: Coaches Award - Colin Rowe; Most Improved - Peter McCormick; Effort Award - Michael Allen; Super Scout Award - Cole Mitchell and Brian McKeon; The North Suburban Conference Sportsmanship Award went to Michael VanAntwerp. Congrats on a history-making season!

Congratulations to the Scout Swimmers/Divers--First Place at Sectionals!

Highlights:
Daniel Smith, Bogdan Balteanu, Peter Grumhaus and Colin Rowe--First place for the 400 free relay (Pool record--3:08) & second place in 200 medley;
Peter Grumhaus--First in the 200 and 500--setting a new record in the 500
Peter McCormick--second place in 500 free;

Bogdan Balteanu--third place in 100 free & third place in 100 breast stroke;
Colin Rowe--second place in 100 free & third place in 200 free;

State qualifiers are Daniel Smith, Bogdan Balteanu, Peter Grumhaus, Colin Rowe, and Andrew Marsh.  Alternates are David Hayes, Peter McCormick, Rasmus Kull, Brian Mckeon, Michael VanAntwerp and Cole Mitchell.  Total team effort by the Scouts!

Lake Forest finished first with 286 points--ahead of defending champion Stevenson, who finished with 283 points. However, Lake Forest and Stevenson tied for the conference title by virtue of the Patriots' dual meet win over the Scouts in the regular season. The Scouts were able to edge out the Patriots in the final race of the afternoon by winning the 400 freestyle relay (3:10.35) while the Patriots finished fourth (3:19:02). "A stunning finish to the meet to win by three points over Stevenson!" exclaimed Coach Cindy Dell. "Congrats to all of the NSC teams on great swims!"

Lake Forest Placed Second at Evanston Invite--setting 2 meet records and with 5 first-place finishes!  Andrew Marsh placed Third at the New Trier Diving Invitational!  Over 50 divers competed from top schools.  Go Scouts!

On Thursday, January 3, the boys' swim program participated in the 100 X 100's, which is a fundraiser to raise money for the Special Operations Warrior's Foundation. Each varsity swimmer swam 100 x 100 or 6.2 miles, or 10,000 yards.   Each JV Swimmer swam 100 x 50, 3.1 miles, or 5000 yards.

Scouts Set Pool Record in 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.
Lake Forest clocked 3:10.96 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to set a pool mark at the Barrington Relays on Saturday, December 8, and came in second with 70 points in the Red Division behind Barrington with 80 points.
