20 second-quarter points. The Scouts outscored Lakes 20-11
in the 2nd; shooting at a .600 clip (6 of 10) from the floor and

to build a 30-14 lead. The Scouts played the Blue Devils even
throughout most of the evening; however, the first few minutes of
the game and the first few minutes of the second half (in which LFHS
spotted Warren those 20 points) were the difference in the game.
Junior Allie Danneker led the way for the Scouts by scoring 8 points,
while junior Norie Kaufmann contributed with 6 points.
The women will compete again on Thursday, January 27 as they travel
to Zion-Benton in another North Suburban

Lake Division contest on the road Friday night to the hands of the Bears of
Lake Zurich.
The host Bears held the Scouts to 1 point in the first quarter on
route to a convincing victory.
Senior co-captain Adrienne Mocogni (coming off of two knee surgeries)
made her return to the lineup dating back to January 8th of this
calendar year. On that date in a home game against rival Warren,
40 seconds into her first game back since her sophomore year, she
hurt the same knee that was injured in the summer of 2009.
The Scouts were led in scoring by junior Allie Danneker who tallied
six points, and Haley Marshall had four points and six rebounds.
The Scouts come home Tuesday, December 14, to face the Zee-Bees of
Zion-Benton in another NSC divisional game.
The Lake Forest womens basketball team fell behind early and couldn't
catch up with the No. 6-ranked Patriots of Stevenson High School
(6-2).
The Scouts (0-9) trailed 10-7 after junior Allie Danneker connected

12/6/10 Scouts threaten Elk Grove, but come up short in 27-18 loss ELK GROVE 27 - LAKE
FOREST 18 (Click
Here for Game Stats)
The Lake Forest High School women's basketball team put on a valiant
effort on Monday, December 6, turning in their best performance of
this season. Despite losing 27-18 to Elk Grove (6-3), the Scouts
proved they can play against quality opponents.
The Scouts (0-8) controlled tempo in the first quarter of play by
valuing possession of the basketball and being deliberate in running
their “Spread Offense” and playing a stingy zone defense
as the quarter closed out tied at five. Elk Grove outscored
the Scouts 8-2 in the second quarter to take a 13-7 lead at the half.
Being down six points heading into the third, the Scouts strategy
did not change as the LFHS continued to take time off the clock with
each possession and played excellent defense as the quarter ended
with the Scouts trailing 18-10.
Again, the Scouts stuck to their game plan, and after back-to-back
three-point field goals by senior co-captain Mackenzie Kenning, the
Scouts trailed the Grens 18-16 with less than 4½ minutes to
play. The Scouts held Elk Grove scoreless on the next two possessions,
and then Mackenzie Kenning had two 3-point field goal attempts just
rim out, which would have given the Scouts the lead heading into
the final minutes of play. Elk Grove made four straight free
throws and added a basket to extend their lead to 24-16. Junior
Marina Katz then made a driving layup to cut the Grens lead to 24-18. The
Grens closed out the scoring by adding 3 free throws for the final
margin of victory.
Kenning led the Scouts in scoring with six points, juniors Marina
Katz and Allie Danneker each chipped in with four points and Haley
Marshall had a season-high 12 rebounds. The 5’5 senior
had her fourth double-digit rebound game of the year.
The Scouts return to action at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 8,
when they host the Patriots of Stevenson High School in a North Suburban
Conference – Lake Division game at the Competition Gym in Lake
Forest.

The Lake Forest women's basketball team took its first conference
loss of the season on Saturday, December 4, as the Mustangs
of Mundelein High School defeated the Scouts 50-20.
Mundelein raced out to an 11-0 lead early and never looked back. The
Scouts shot a season best 26% from the floor; however, they had a
season-low 27 field-goal attempts. LFHS committed a season-high
31 turnovers. Rebounding was another costly category, as Mundelein
had 15 offensive rebounds on the day leading to 16 second-chance
points.
The Scouts were led in scoring by senior co-captain Mackenzie Kenning,
as she registered 8 points. Junior Allie Danneker contributed
7 points in the loss.

Stats thru 6 games)
The Lake Forest women's basketball team continued with its struggles
this past Saturday as they marked another wide-margined defeat in
this season's loss column. The Wolves of Niles West High School outplayed
the Scouts offensively and defensively, especially concerning field-goal
percentage.
LFHS has struggled all year to find its groove from the field and
tonight wasn't any different. The Scouts were able to connect on
just 4 of 46 (.086) attempts in the contest, and 1 of 5 (.200) from
behind the arc. However, the Scouts held their own on the glass
as Niles West won the rebounding battle 33-30.
The Scouts hung around early in the game; however, they missed out
on several opportunities by hitting only 3 of 11 from the free-throw
line and not being able to cash in around the basket.
Niles West led 12-6, but a three point basket just before the quarter
gave the Wolves a 15-6 lead at the end of one. Wolves D1 standout
Loyd scored all ten Niles West points in the second quarter, giving
the Wolves a commanding lead 25-7 at half time. Junior guard Marina
Katz led the Scouts in scoring by posting six points on the night.
LFHS will head into December by opening up conference play
at home in the competition gym with divisional foe Mundelein on
Saturday, December 4th. Tip-off is at 2:30 pm.

The Lake Forest women's basketball team put up a fight on Wednesday,
but came up just short as the Bulldogs from Waukegan High School
defeated the Scouts by a final score of 47-31.
After Waukegan jumped out to an 11-0 lead, the Scouts closed out
the first quarter with five straight points to trail 11-5 after one.
The game stayed extremely tight throughout the first half as the
Scouts outscored Waukegan 15-7 in the second quarter. Senior
co-captain Mackenzie Kenning led the charge by scoring 8 of her career-high
13 points in the quarter. The Scouts trailed 23-20 heading
into the locker room at intermission.
Both teams struggled from the field in the third quarter, as Waukegan
outscored LFHS 6-3 to expand their lead to six points--29-23--after
three quarters of play.
Waukegan scored two quick baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth
quarter to grab a 33-23 lead. Mackenzie Kenning connected on
her second three-point field goal of the day to cut the Bulldog lead
to 36-29, but that’s as close as the Scouts would get as Waukegan
made seven of ten free throws down the stretch to seal the
victory.
Kenning led all Scout scorers with 13 points, while junior Sarah
LaFasto recorded a career high six points. With
the loss, the Scouts fall to 0-5 on the year.

loss of the season at the hands of perennial power Evanston High
School.
The Scouts got off to a good start, as seniors Mackenzie Kenning
opened the game with a three-point field goal and Bridget Nelson
connected on 1of 2 free throws to give the Scouts a 4-0 lead. The
Wildkits (3-0) scored fourteen straight points before junior Norie
Kaufmann nailed an 18-foot jump shot in the closing seconds of the
first quarter giving Evanston a 14-6 lead. Both teams went back
and forth in the second, before the Kits added to their lead--giving
them a 29-15 advantage going into intermission.
That was as close as the Scouts would get, as the Kits outscored
the Scouts 19-8 in the third and 20-4 in the final stanza.
Shooting once again was a factor as LFHS shot only 6 for 42 from
the floor. Junior Marina Katz led the way for the Scouts, scoring
7 points, including going 3-4 from the charity stripe. Junior Allie
Danneker put up 6 points and senior Haley Marshall once again led
the Scouts in rebounding with 6 rebounds.

11/20/10 Shooting Struggles Continue to Plague Scouts NORTH CHICAGO 41 – LAKE FOREST 34 (Click
Here for Game Stats)
The Lake Forest women's basketball team came up short on Saturday
as the Scouts fell to 0-3 on the season with a 41-34 loss to the
Warhawks from North Chicago. The Scouts couldn't find the
bottom of the net on the evening as the women registered 20.7% (11-53)
from the field. The Scouts also continued their woes from the
free-throw line as they connected on only 8-29 (27.6%). Defensively,
LFHS was solid again, and the under-sized Scouts continued to hold
their own on the boards (27-27).
The Scouts jumped out to a 13-7 lead after one quarter and led 18-14
midway through the 2nd quarter, but the Scouts could not extend their
lead as they missed on nine consecutive free throws. However,
the Scouts still led 18-16 at the half.
In the second half, once again for the third straight game, the Scouts
succumbed to foul trouble and that led to the Warhawks’ taking
the lead midway through the third quarter. LFHS managed only
two points in the quarter, as they trailed 24-20 after three quarters
of play.
The game remained close to the end, as senior Captain Mackenzie Kenning
and junior Allie Danneker connected on back-to-back three-point field
goals in the final minute as the Scouts mounted their charge; however,
North Chicago scored 6 of their final 8 points from the free-throw
line to seal the victory.
Mackenzie Kenning led the Scouts in scoring with 9 points and Haley
Marshallonce again registered double figures in
rebounds with 11, while tallying 6 points. The 5’5" senior

the season. Marshall is averaging 10.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore
Kelsey Simet recorded 6 points, juniors Sarah LaFasto added 4 points
and 4 steals and Allie Danneker scored 4 points on the night.

DEERFIELD 62 - LAKE FOREST 35 (Click
Here for Game Stats)
The Lake Forest High School women's basketball team met their match
on Thursday, as the Warriors from Deerfield High School bested the
Scouts for a 62-35 win in the opening round of the Deerfield Thanksgiving
Challenge.
The Scouts trailed 15-8 after one quarter of play, and then midway
through the 2nd, Deerfield took a double-digit lead. The Scouts
went into the locker room down 26-15 at the half.
Throughout the duration of the game, the Scouts were unable to cut
into the double digit deficit, as the Warrior lead stayed between
10-12 points in the third quarter. However, with the Scouts
plagued by foul trouble, Deerfield expanded their 11 point lead with
3 minutes left in the third to close out the quarter with a 15-4
run, giving the Warriors a 49-27 lead after 3 quarters of play.
Again, the Scouts struggled from the field shooting only 22%--going
13 for 58. Deerfield shot over 32% from the floor on the evening. Deerfield
was also 15 of 21 from the charity stripe for a .714 average for
the game. LFHS on the other hand was only 8-17 (.471) from
the free throw line.
The Scouts lost the turnover battle committing 19 on the night, compared
to only 10 for Deerfield. The Scouts held their own on the boards--winning
the battle by securing 34 rebounds, as the Warriors had 26.
The Scouts seniors provided great leadership, as once again Haley
Marshall led the way with 7 points. Marshall also established
another career high in rebounds, following up from her 9 rebounds
in the season opener by grabbing 11 boards on the evening. Bridget
Nelson had 5 points and 5 rebounds and Mackenzie Kenning grabbed
6 rebounds. Sophomore Kelsey Simet turned in a solid performance
by scoring six points on 3 of 5 shooting.
Notables: Juniors Chelsea Hargitt scored her first career varsity
points in the 2nd quarter and Sarah LaFasto connected on her first
career 3-point field goal in the fourth. Also, Cat Perino did
a nice job defensively by coming up with three steals and two deflections.
With the loss, LFHS falls to 0-2 on the year. Their
next contest is scheduled for this weekend as the women continue
play at the Deerfield Tournament on Saturday, November 20th. North
Chicago is the next opponent for the Scouts. Game time
is at 5:00 pm
11/16/10 REGINA 45 - LAKE FOREST 31 (Click
Here for Game Stats)
The Lake Forest women's basketball team (0-1) lost a tough battle
45-31 to Regina Dominican (1-0) onTuesday night at the Panther Pit
in Wilmette.
After having been down by as many as 12 points early in the fourth
quarter, the Scouts were down 35-30 with less than four minutes to
go when senior Mackenzie Kenning’s three-point field attempt
(which would have cut the Regina lead to two points) rimmed in and
out. The miss led to a fast-break basket for Regina, giving the Panthers
a seven point lead, 37-30, which the Scouts could not overcome.
Senior Haley Marshall led the Scouts with a team-high nine points
and nine rebounds while junior Allie Danneker added six points and
four assists.
The Scouts struggled at the free throw line by shooting 6-for-21
in the first half, and the Scouts headed into the locker room down
15-13 at intermission. LF trailed 21-19 with seconds remaining
in the third quarter, but a three-point basket by Regina closed out
the quarter with the Scouts trailing by 5 points, 24-19.
Lake Forest had a tremendous defensive performance, coming up with
19 steals, 18 deflections and forced 27 Regina turnovers. However,
the Scouts shot poorly, not only from the foul line, but also from
the field. Lake Forest shot 11-46 from the floor for 24%.
The Scouts open up play on Thursday, November 18, against
Deerfield High School in the annual Deerfield Thanksgiving
Challenge. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

The Lake Forest women's basketball team looked to pick up an upset
playoff victory in IHSA Regional play on Tuesday evening against
Fremd, but the Vikings won a nail-biter 57-53 on their home floor
at The Fremd Regional.
The Scouts were tied at 51-51 with 44.5 to go in the game and had
possession of the basketball, but a Scouts' turnover led to Fremd
making 1 of 2 free throws to give the Vikings the lead at 52-51. With
less than 30 seconds to play, a drive to the basket by senior Captain
Claire DiMario rimmed out and the Vikings secured the rebound and
were fouled. Fremd closed out the scoring by converting 5 of
6 free throws to seal the win.
Junior Caelan Rottman led the Scouts with a team-high 14 points
while DiMario added 12. Rottman pulled down 8 rebounds
and DiMario had a career-high 6 assists in her final game of
her four-year Varsity career. The Scouts also received nine
points from sophomore Mary Striedl, eight points from Mackenzie
Kenning, including two three-point field goals on the evening,
and six points from senior Jordan Majka.
In the first half, the first five-and-a-half minutes of play
saw three ties, as neither team led by more than two points. LFHS
received a three-point field goal from Junior Mackenzie Kenning,
her first of two three-point field goals on the night, to take a
11-7 lead, but a conventional three-point play by Fremd, made the
score 11-10 in favor of the Scouts at the end of one quarter of play.
The Scouts were outscored 12-6 in the second quarter, as Fremd connected
on a three-pointer at the end of the half to take a 22-17 lead into
the locker rooms.
Fremd opened up a ten-point lead, 35-25, midway through the third,
but LFHS responded with a 7-0 run to end the quarter and the Scouts
trailed 35-32.
Jordan Majka’s basket with less than three minutes to play
gave the Scouts a three-point lead, 47-44; however, the Vikings came
right back and hit a three-point field goal to tie it at 47-47.
From that point on, neither team lead by more than two points down
the stretch as Fremd held on for the win.
LFHS went 20 of 44 from the field for 45.5 percent for the game,
while the Scouts held the Vikings to 26.9 percent, (14 of 52). The
Scouts nearly pulled off the upset; however, they could not overcome
the free-throw battle in which Fremd won by shooting 39 attempts
on the evening. Fremd went 26 for 39, while our Scouts were
10 for 14.
The Scouts finish the season 15-14.
The entire Lake Forest women’s basketball staff would like
to thank the administration, faculty, student body and our parents
for the support of our team and program this past season.
Most of all we would like to thank our players for the hard
work, dedication and commitment to Scouts Basketball. GO
SCOUTS!
Footnote: Senior Kristen Borrasso
and Junior Mackenzie Kenning advanced to the final round of the Fremd
Regional three-point shootout.
Added Footnote: Senior Claire DiMario finishes
her four-year Varsity career with 1,037 points, 704 rebounds
and 216 steals.
The Lake Forest women's basketball team won its regular
season finale Tuesday evening as the Scouts defeated the Cougars
from Vernon Hills with a final score of 36-30. With the win,
LFHS improves to 15-13 on the season.
With Lake Forest trailing 12-2 after one quarter of play, the Scouts
took control of the game in the second quarter--scoring 16 unanswered
points. Caelan Rottman started the quarter with a basket inside,
Jordan Majka added a pair of free throws and Rottman added another
free throw, and back-to-back baskets by senior Megan Moore pulled
the Scouts to within one. Claire DiMario added a pair of free
throws to give the Scouts their first lead of the night at 13-12.
A Haley Marshall basket, a pair of free throws by DiMario, and a
Moore free throw accounted for the 16 second-quarter points. The
Cougars added a free throw with less than a minute to play to avoid
being shutout in the quarter, as the Scouts outscored Vernon Hills
16-1 in the second. The Scouts led 18-13 at the half.
Rottman scored 6 of her game-high 12 points in the third quarter
and senior Kristen Borrasso added a basket in the quarter, giving
the Scouts a 7-point advantage, 26-19.
The Scouts took their biggest lead of the night 29-19, when DiMario
connected on a three-point field goal from the left corner to open
up the fourth quarter. Vernon Hills cut the Scouts lead to
four, 34-30 in the closing minute; however, a Majka basket sealed
the victory.
LFHS won the turnover battle, committing 17 while the Cougars handed
the ball over 28 times.
Junior Caelan Rottmanrecorded her first double-double
of the season as she grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with her 12
points. Senior Claire DiMario added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
The Scouts' next game is scheduled for this Tuesday,
Feb. 16, as the women will travel to Palatine to take on the
Vikings of Fremd High School in the semi-final game of the
IHSA Fremd Regional. Presently Fremd stands with a 20-8 overall
record. Game time is slated to begin at 8:00 pm.
The Lake Forest women's basketball team lost a tough
battle on Saturday, Senior Day, as the Scouts fell to Lake Division
Champion, #21 ranked Libertyville in conference play with a final
score of 50-46.
The game stayed tight throughout the first half as baskets were traded--the
Cats led 10-6 after one quarter and a three-pointer at the buzzer
gave Libertyville a 22-18 advantage at the half. The Cats scored
the first six points of the third to take a 10-point lead and sustained
the lead as the third quarter ended with the Scouts trailing 36-26.
With less than five minutes to play, a Mary Striedl three-point field
goal brought the Scouts to within one point, 41-40, a DiMario free
throw, kept the Scouts to within one point 42-41. The Scouts
had numerous chances to try and grab the led; however, free throws
down the stretch by Libertyville kept the Scouts at bay as the Cats
held on to seal the win, 50-46.
Two Scouts registered double figures in points on the evening with
Jordan Majka scoring 12 points and Calean Rottman totaling 11 points. Majka
recorded a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds on the day.
With the loss, the Scouts fall to an overall record of 14-13. The
women will take the court again this Tuesday, February 9th, as they
will compete against the Cougars from Vernon Hills in a North Suburban
Crossover contest. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Vernon
Hills.
The Lake Forest women's basketball team lost a hard-fought
battle Tuesday night as Warren Township High School defeated out
Scouts 35-30. The Scouts were without the services of senior Christine
Menzies and junior Caelan Rottman.
The game stayed tight throughout the evening as the score reflected
an 18-14 lead for the Blue Devils at halftime.
Warren started the second half strong as they were able to register
their largest lead of the game by nine points, 23-14. The Scouts
were then able to force a number of turnovers midway through the
third quarter as the Scouts rallied to cut the Blue Devils lead to
25-22, when sophomore Mary Striedl connected on a 3-point field goal,
and as the quarter ended Warren’s lead was 28-24. In
the fourth, the Scouts cut the Warren lead to two points at 29-27;
however, the Scouts missed on some easy opportunities around the
basket and four missed free throws down the stretch prevented the
Scouts from pulling off the comeback.
Jordan Majka had 10 points to lead the Scouts. With the loss, LFHS
drops to 14-12 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
Next up for the Scouts is a home contest on Saturday,
February 6, with Lake Division Champion, Libertyville (20-5,
9-2). It’s Senior Day--the festivities begin
around 2:00 p.m. and tip-off is at 2:30 p.m. in the competition
gym.
The Lake Forest women's basketball team (14-11) dropped
a 63-53 contest to the #25 ranked Glenbrook South Titans (17-6) on
Saturday afternoon--concluding the back end of a back-to-back home
stand at The Competition Gym.
Senior Claire DiMario posted back-to-back double-doubles over the
weekend, her seventh and eighth of the season. Coming off of
a 19-point and 10-rebound performance on Friday night against conference
co-leader Zion-Benton, DiMario had 18 points and 10 rebounds against
the Titans on Saturday afternoon. DiMario also scored her 1000th
career point. DiMario was the only Scout to reach double figures
in the contest.
The Titans jumped out of the gate strong with a 13-2 run and held
the Scouts to single-digits in the first quarter, as Glenbrook South
led 22-8 at the end of one. Our Scouts trailed by as many as eighteen
in the first half before rallying to cut the deficit to ten--32-22
at half time.
GBS maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third, ranging
from eleven to seventeen points. With 2.7 seconds left, Caelan Rottman
delivered a pass from under the Titans basket to Claire DiMario just
beyond mid court. That’s when DiMario sank a jump shot just
inside the arc at the buzzer to get the Scouts to within nine points,
45-36.
Senior Jordan Majka scored to start the fourth quarter
to cut the Titans lead to seven. Shortly thereafter, Claire DiMario
was fouled and went to the free-throw line to shoot a one-and-one;
DiMario converted on the free throw, her thirteenth point of the
game, thus allowing her to reach the 1000 career point milestone.
DiMario made the second free throw to get the Scouts to within five
points, 45-40. Later the Scouts got a three-point field from Mary
Striedl to pull to within four points, 49-45, but that’s as
close as the Scouts would get. Down the stretch the Scouts
had numerous chances to cut the GBS lead to two or three points;
however, it was to no avail as the Scouts had to foul in the final
minute of play, and GBS free throws sealed the victory.
GBS had only two field goals in the fourth and was 14 of 21 at the
foul line in the final period.
The Scouts got 9 points and 7 rebounds from sophomore Mary Striedl,
and six points apiece from seniors, Jordan Majka, Christine Menzies
and Megan Moore.
LFHS returns to North Suburban Conference – Lake Division play on Tuesday,
February 2, as they travel to Gurnee to take on The Blue Devils of Warren
Township High School. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.

Lake Forest (14-10, 4-6) 51 - Zion-Benton 34(game
stats) (season
stats thru 24 games)
(conference
stats thru 10 games)
The Lake Forest women's basketball team defeated conference co-leader
Zion-Benton on Friday evening at the Competition Gym. The Scouts
improve to 4-6 in North Suburban Lake play and 14-10 overall while
the Zee-Bees move on to 15-7, 2-3.
Senior Claire DiMario recordrd her seventh double-double of the season--scoring
a game high 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Sophomore Mary Striedl added
15 points to lead the Scouts to victory.
The Scouts got off to a fast start as DiMario took control of the
game early by scoring 12 of the Scouts 15 first-quarter points giving
LFHS a six-point advantage, 15-9, at the end of one. However,
the Zee-Bees then went on a 15-3 run in the second quarter before
DiMario connected on a 15-foot jump shot at the buzzer, as Zion-Benton
took a 24-20 lead into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Striedl opened the third quarter with nine straight
points for the Scouts and her first points of the game, by connecting
on a three-point field goal and three more two-point field goals. With
the score tied at 30 apiece, senior point guard Megan Moore scored
six consecutive points. A DiMario basket at the end of the third
quarter put the Scouts ahead by six, 38-32. The Scouts outscored
Zion-Benton 13-2 in the fourth quarter, giving the Scouts the 51-34
victory.
Aside from the offensive production of DiMario and
Striedl, Megan Moore contributed with six points. Junior Caelan Rottman,
returning to action after having to miss only one game due to her
knee injury, added five points and four rebounds.
LFHS shot 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from the field in the second half. The
Scouts committed only three second-half turnovers as they forced
20 Zee-Bee turnovers for the game. In addition, Lake Forest limited
Zion-Benton to their second lowest point total of the season and
13 points under their scoring average.
The Scouts conclude their the second game of their
back-to-back home stand with a 2:30 pm tip against #25 ranked
Glenbrook South, tomorrow, on Saturday, January 30, at the
Competition Gym.
The Lake Forest Women's Basketball Team (13-10) playing without starting
center Caelan Rottman (out indefinitely with a knee injury) lost
a close contest 56-55 to Highland Park (17-5) on Tuesday evening
at The Exhibition Gym in Highland Park. The loss is the Scouts first
three-game losing streak of the season.
The Scouts were up by one with less than a minute remaining, but
two costly turnovers led to the Giants playing for the last shot. The
Scouts defended the initial shot well, but an offensive rebound and
a mad scramble for the ball under the Giants basket led to a putback
layup with two seconds remaining. The Scouts attempted a length-of-the-floor
pass to no avail--giving the Giants the 56-55 victory.
The Scouts were down by as many as seven points in the third quarter
before rallying as the quarter ended with the scored tied at 42-42.
In the fourth quarter, Kristen Borrasso (2-for-2) and Megan
Moore (4-for-4) at the free-throw line kept the Scouts in the lead. A
Claire DiMario free-throw in the last minute and a half gave the
Scouts a 55-52 lead; however, a Giant’s basket and the Scout
turnovers in the closing minute led to Highland Park’s game-winning
basket.
Sophomore Mary Striedl led the Scouts with a game-high 19 points.
Claire DiMario added 14 points while Megan Moore had 10.
The Scouts return home on Friday evening, January 29, for
a 7:30 pm game at The Competition Gym in a conference-divisional
match-up against division co-leader Zion-Benton. The
Scouts will play the second of a back-to-back on Saturday,
January 30, at home against highly-ranked Glenbrook South
in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is at 2:30 pm
The Lake Forest women's basketball team (13-9, 3-6) traveled to Lake
Zurich to take on the Bears on Saturday evening in conference/divisional
action. The Bears got the best of the Scouts, winning 48-39.
Lake Zurich took a 12-2 first quarter lead and quickly turned it
into a 17-point advantage, 27-10 by halftime.
LFHS then went on a 14-6 run, capped off by a basket
from senior Claire DiMario, to cut the lead to 9 at 33-24 with just
over 9 minutes remaining. The Scouts could get no closer than
9 down the stretch as the Bears took home the 48-39 victory.
DiMario led LFHS with 15 points and 5 rebounds while Caelan Rottman
and Megan Moore added 9 points apiece.
In the first half, both teams were cold to start the game as neither
squad could dent the scoring column until Lake Zurich connected on
a pair of free throws with over three minutes gone in the first quarter. However,
LFHS was limited to 10 first-half points on 8-percent (2-of-25) shooting
as only three players scored in the first half--led by four each
from DiMario and Rottman and two from Moore. The Scouts 8-percent
shooting was the lowest first-half percentage of the season.
The Scouts countered in the second half by shooting 40 percent (10-of-25)
from the floor. Our Scouts were out-rebounded 32-22.
The Scouts conclude their two-game road trip with a 7:00
pm tip against the Giants of Highland Park High School (16-5)
on Tuesday, January 26, at the Exhibition Gym in Highland
Park.
The Lake Forest women's basketball team (13-8, 3-5) dropped
a close 57-52 contest to Stevenson on Thursday evening at the Competition
Gym. The Patriots (16-6, 6-4), who are ranked #20 in the Daily
Herald and receiving votes in the Sun Times and Tribune polls,
came back from a 10-point first half deficit to take the victory.
Three Scouts were in double figures led by sophomore Mary Striedl
with 15 points, junior Caelan Rottman scored 13 points and senior
Claire DiMario posted another double-double, her sixth of the season,
by scoring 12 points and collecting a game-high 17 rebounds.
In the first quarter, the Scouts trailed 12-4; however, a 10-2 run
to end the period had both teams tied at 14 apiece. The
Scouts led 31-21 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the first
half, as the Patriots then scored the final 6 points on back-to-back
three-pointers to close out the half with LFHS taking a slim 31-27
lead into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Stevenson scored ten unanswered
points in the next three minutes to complete a 16-0 run to lead by
