Lake Forest 0 - New Trier 2 Scouts Place 2nd in State Playoffs
10/29/10
Lake Forest 1 - Oak Park River Forest 0 The Scouts field hockey team
is now one win away from the State Championship that escaped
them last year. In
a very tight battle with Oak Park River Forest, Lake Forest
finally put the ball in the cage after about 20 shots on
goal. Sarah Zavitz stripped the ball from the OPRF
defense and sent it to a waiting Kasey Quon who ripped
a shot past the goalie. The ball was briefly deflected
then finished by Julie Freeman. Oak Park had several
opportunities in the final 2:30 minutes but were stopped
by goalie Lina Trucco and the stingy defensive unit of
Mary Susan Bro, Katie Sullivan, Cynthia Stamelos and Katie
Skinner. Lake Forest will meet perennial
foe New Trier at 1 pm at Benedictine University tomorrow,
Oct. 30.
10/26/10
Lake Forest 3 - Glenbard West 0
The Scouts field hockey team defeated a feisty and determined
Glenbard West team 3-0 in the state sectional to compete
in their 15th straight final four. After a scoreless
and blustery 1st half, Sarah Zavitz was able to put the ball
in the cage after a lengthy scrum in front of Glenbard's goalie.
The second goal came 9 minutes later during a penalty corner
with Katie Sullivan tipping in Mary Susan Bro's initial shot
on goal. The final goal of the game was scored by Julie Freedman
with an assist from Kasey Quon. Lake
Forest will play their long-time rival, Oak Park River Forest,
in the state semi-final at 11 am at Benedictine University
on Friday, October 29.
10/22/10

Lake Forest 2 - Glenbard West 0
In their third game in as many days,
the Scouts traveled to Glen Ellyn for a re-match
of last year's semi-final game against a physical Glenbard
West team. With only 7 minutes remaining in
the first half, Jessica Staton scored her 4th goal in
4 games to take the lead. Glenbard was then issued
a penalty stroke because LF goalie Lena Trucco did not
have her mouth guard in. Trucco made the save,
and shortly thereafter Kasey Quon scored on a breakaway--faking
out the GBW goalie to secure the
win and #1 ranking in the state. Mary Susan
Bro assisted both goals and commanded the midfield with
the help of Morgan Dever, Hannah Nedeau and Katherine
Cook who just returned from a knee injury.
Lake Forest finishes
their season with a 16-0-1 record in regular season play
and will begin the state playoffs next week.
10/13/10
Lake Forest 2 - Deerfield 1

begin the second half and equalize the score at 1. With
ten minutes remaining, Sarah Zavitz scored with another
assist from Quon.

Lake Forest 3 - New Trier 1
The Scouts put together their first multi-goal win against
long-time rival New Trier-- winning 3-1. Lake Forest scored
first on a penalty corner with Sarah Zavitz converting off
of Hannah Nedeau's initial shot. This was Nedeau's second game
of the season after suffering a torn ACL. New Trier marched
down to the LF defensive end and put a goal in on their own
penalty corner to equalize the score at 1. Three minutes later
Kasey Quon took a rocket of a shot on a break-away that ricocheted
off the post, and Zavitz hammered it past the goalie--who was
out of position to attempt a save. Julie Freedman then added
the third and final goal of the game on a perfectly-executed
penalty corner assisted by Quon. Lina Trucco and the defensive
unit of Katie Sullivan, Katie Skinner, Cynthia Stamelos, Abby
Sirus and Mary Susan Bro held off the Trevians for the entire
second half--recording 4 saves.
10/1/10

and Kasey Quon. Sarah Zavitz also scored off an assist from
Julie Freedman.

Emily Barrett. LF dominated most of the game with the exception
of a 7-minute span where New Trier had 6 penalty corners. Lake
Forest defender Julia Retsky stretched across the goal with an
incredible defensive save to prevent what would have been a certain
goal for New Trier. Goalie Patty Ziccarelli had 5 saves in
the muddy goal cage and was helped defensively by Elizabeth Skinner,
Tracey Williams, Norah Johnson and Retsky. Jordan Majka shared
the shutout. Midfielders Annie Evans and Finley Amato kept
the ball on the offensive end and forward Megan Bourne kept the
attack alive on the front line. The Scouts now move
to 13-1 and share the league lead with New Trier (12-1).

Lake Forest 0 - New Trier 1
The Scouts are off to an up and down start this season. After
a successful tournament in St. Louis, where the Scouts were 2-1,
and two wins against Homewood-Flossmoor and Deerfield, they suffered
their first loss of the season to perennial foe New Trier. The
game was evenly matched throughout most of the game when the Trevians
capitalized on a scoring opportunity with 5 minutes remaining. Despite
10 penalty corners, Lake Forest was unable to convert. They
hope to spark some offense next week with their first home
game, Monday, Sept. 8, vs. Lake Forest neighbors, Woodlands
Academy, at 4:30 on the front lawn. The Scouts will then
play Lakes High School, again at home on Tuesday, Sept
9. Come cheer them on to their first at home victories!
