This was a huge win for the Scouts over the Bears.  Lake Zurich has had the Scouts number for the past several years and recently gave the Scouts 1 of their 4 losses on the year.  Of the 14 players on the Scout squad, the 11 returning seniors refused to have their season end to the Bears (as it did in the previous year).  Much of the momentum of the match began with the first attack as Carolyn Hopfinger planted the ball down deep on the Bears.  The relentless attack continued through the first set and deep into the second set.  Lake Zurich was able to stage a strong return which tied the second set at 18, 20 and again at 22.  Playing the entire night with a lead provided the confidence in the Scouts, allowing them to finish the match strong.

With the win, the Scouts advance to the Sectional final match vs. Stevenson on Thursday night at 7 pm, Buffalo Grove High School.

Record:  32-4, 7-1 (in conference)

This was a fun tournament to win for the Scouts.  The entire Scout squad was needed to contribute to the win.  With multiple starters out of the line up for much of the tournament, new opportunities for players were presented, and these players were able to take advantage of the moments in positive ways.  The general approach that the Scouts needed to focus on was playing fundamental volleyball--starting with solid defense and ball control.  The Scouts were able to play with a high level of positive energy, confidence and toughness, specifically on Saturday when they dropped the first sets to both Zion and Stevenson and were able to respond with back-to-back wins vs. both teams to claim the Cross Town Championship.

Congratulations to the Scouts for winning a hard-fought match for the NSC Championship!  In the first set of the match the Eagles took it to the Scouts, beating them soundly in all aspects of the game, 15-25.

Set #2 was a constant wave of momentum shifts with both teams constantly scrambling to find order out of the chaos.  To close out set 2, the Scouts were able to find a quick 3- point run to force a third set with a big kill from Anna Schwartz, on Match Point for Lakes. This shot tied the score at 25.  Following an Eagle hitting error, Mary Striedl's kill ended the set 27-25 with the Scouts on top.

Set #3, the Scouts were finally able to exhale and relax, winning 25-17.  In this final set, the Scouts' defense led the way--recording 6 blocks and 10 digs as Jennifer Kreb was able to account for 3 of the Scouts' blocks in this final set. Meredith Huszagh, Maggie Jacobson and Tori Lanzillotti provided solid back row support for Mary Striedl, who found her offensive groove, tallying 5 kills.
