This was
a good solid win for the Scouts. Each player was able
to contribute in the win. Lake Forest was able to control
the tempo of the game by staying focused on their strengths
as team. We knew that GBS’ wonderful player,
Ellen Chapman was going to be able to do some damage. The
team's goal was to play relaxed and win the serve and serve
receive battle.

This was a great tournament for the Scouts heading into playoffs. The
team has put together a very solid season--going 17-8 heading
into this tournament. We have been working on taking
that next step as a team and found it as we defeated Sectional
top- seed, Libertyville. Hopefully we will continue to
build upon these two days of high-level play.

This tournament marks the high point of
the season for the Scouts so far and hopefully signals
great things to come. In the morning matches the
Scouts dominated the teams in what proved to be a total
team effort. By dictating the tempo and playing with
tremendous energy, the Scouts advanced to the Championship
match and defeated Carmel . Next stop… two

In general
it was a wonderful tournament for the Scouts. We have
been working very hard these past few weeks trying to find
our identity as a team. Competing as well as we did
against solid teams in this tournament was a huge step forward. The
girls are believing in themselves and each other more with
each match we play. York was too much for us the first
time we played them early in the season as they ripped right
through us. Today, in the second and third set against
them, we stood up strong-- proving that we can play with
the best teams in the state.

There was tough competition for the Scouts
on Friday night. Lake Forest was expecting to play
better than they did against Carl Sandburg and York. Those
are two very solid teams that you cannot give easy points
to and expect to win.The match against Lyons was much better
than the first two matches. The Scouts were able
to dictate the tempo and win the first set. LF had
Lyons on the ropes, at 21-18, in the second set but their
mental toughness proved to be more than the Scouts could
handle--as they dropped the second set by committing 5
untimely errors to end the set, 22-25. They were
unable to generate the same positive momentum in the third--losing
19-25.

LF's season ends at Regional Finals vs. Mundelein 17-25, 21-25 Mundelein was the better team today. They played
very well and earned the victory. It was not Lake Forest's
best match of the season, which makes the loss disappointing. The
Scouts had a fantastic season--winning the LF Invite, finishing
second at the Cross Town Classic and second in NSC play. Coach
Werner feels that "This group of young ladies has been special to
work with as each of them are first good people and then happen
to be able to play good volleyball. I am very proud
of everyone involved with our season."

pm against Mundelein.
10/23-24/09 Lake Forest finishes a strong
2nd place in the Cross Town Classic.
The Scouts won 3 matches Friday night to finish as the top team
in their pool. With the wins over Zion Benton (25-20 and
25-12), Highland Park (25-23 and 25-11), and Grant (25-20 and 25-19)
the Scouts headed on Saturday to Libertyville HS to play the Wildcats--the
same Wildcats that had recently topped the Scouts in conference
play.
Saturday was the Scouts turn to shine as they won the first set
25-19, lost the second set 26-27, but were able to rally for a
solid third set win 25-20 to advance to the finals. In the
finals the Scouts jumped out to an 18-11 lead in the first set
against the Bears from Lake Zurich only to see the Bears storm
back to win 20-25. Set two of the championship was a tight
match that ended with Lake Zurich edging out the Scouts 23-25. Highlights from the 5 matches: Heidi Sierks--17 kills, 112 assists Lizzy Meyer--22 kills, 9 aces Mykel Vandenberg--18 kills, 4 aces, 12 digs Mary Striedl 25--kills, 9 aces, 25 digs Carolyn Salzer--28 kills Kitty Leider--38 digs

Tough loss for the Scouts at LZ: 26-28, 15-25
Record: 7 – 7 overall, 2-1 conference
Highlights: LF had 22 kills, 3 aces
Alex Funk and Mary Striedl led the team with 6 and
5 kills respectively. A fast and furious tone for the opening set was established by the
Scouts, who were able to put together a solid 6-point lead, 18-12, only to
have the Bears come storming back to tie the game at 19. Both teams traded
points, and the score was again tied at 21. The Scouts were able to take the
1-point lead at 25-24, but unfortunately finished the game with several critical
errors. The second set was all Bears, as their defensive and offensive level
of play limited the Scouts scoring opportunities and did not let the Scouts
get back on track, as the Scouts dropped the second set 15-25. Next
up for the Scouts, at New Trier, Tuesday 9/29.

Lake Forest defeated Stevenson 25-23, 25-23 Record: LF 4-4 overall, 2-0 conference
Both games were defensive battles. Stevenson took a good-sized
lead on Lake Forest in game 1 only to find that the Scouts weren’t
quite done playing yet as they found the momentum to win the race
to 25. In game 2, LF jumped out to a 7-1 lead, only to find
that Stevenson was not quite done playing yet either as they eliminated
the lead. From there it was side out ball. With the
score tied at 23, the crowd started stomping as the Scouts won
the side out and hit an ace for the match. Next matches: at Maine East Tourney, Friday,
