A total of 426 soccer teams (165 boys, 261 girls) from throughout the United States have earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2008-09 academic year. Among these programs are 68 schools receiving honors for both their boys and girls teams.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 (4.00) for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

Lake Forest is the only school from Illinois of the 68 schools to earn the award for both the boys and girls teams. The certificates will be displayed proudly in the commons.
