School nurse report daily absences
for students and staff who have influenza-like symptoms.*
If any of those students or staff have been laboratory tested
for Influenza A or H1N1, those numbers are also reported.
Please be aware that many doctors are not testing
to confirm H1N1. Therefore, the “Influenza-Like Illness” category
is particularly important as non-laboratory confirmed
cases are included in this category.
The number of students and staff with flu-like symptoms,
and those who have been laboratory tested and confrmed for
Influenza A or H1N1 are posted on the school websites.
Numbers posted on the school websites will fluctuate as the
student and staff populations either return to school (after
a 24-hour period without fever, and without the use of fever-reducing
medicines), or call in an absence.
* Defined as fever ≥ 100°F and cough or sore throat
